أعرب المدرب اليوناني جورجيوس دونيس عن سعادته وفخره الكبيرين بذكر اسمه ضمن الأسماء المرشحة لتدريب المنتخب السعودي، مؤكداً أن هذا الأمر يُعد شرفاً كبيراً له، خصوصاً لما تحمله السعودية من مكانة خاصة في مسيرته وحياته. جاء ذلك خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي سبق مواجهة فريقه الخليج بنظيره الهلال ضمن مباريات الجولة الحادية عشرة من دوري روشن السعودي للمحترفين. وأكد دونيس أنه في حال خُيّر بين تدريب أي منتخب، فسيكون اختياره محصوراً بين السعودية واليونان، مشدداً على أنه يشعر في المملكة وكأنه في وطنه وبين أهله، ويملك ارتباطاً عاطفياً كبيراً بها.
وأوضح المدرب اليوناني أنه يفهم جيداً «DNA» اللاعب السعودي، مشيراً إلى أن اللاعب المحلي يتمتع بقدرات فنية عالية ويحتاج فقط للثقة والتنظيم ليقدّم أفضل ما لديه.
كما أشار دونيس إلى دوره في وصول عدد من اللاعبين إلى المنتخب السعودي، من بينهم فراس البريكان، نواف بوشل، مراد هوساوي، وصالح أبو الشامات، مؤكداً فخره بمساهمته في تطويرهم وتجهيزهم للعب الدولي.
واختتم دونيس حديثه بالتأكيد على أن كرة القدم السعودية تمتلك مستقبلاً واعداً، وأن الاستثمار في المواهب والاستقرار الفني عنصران أساسيان لتحقيق النجاحات القادمة.
The Greek coach Georgios Donis expressed his great happiness and pride at having his name mentioned among the candidates to coach the Saudi national team, affirming that this is a great honor for him, especially given the special status that Saudi Arabia holds in his career and life. This came during the press conference that preceded his team’s match against Al-Hilal in the eleventh round of the Roshen Saudi Pro League. Donis confirmed that if he were given the choice to coach any national team, his selection would be limited to Saudi Arabia and Greece, emphasizing that he feels in the Kingdom as if he is in his homeland and among his family, and he has a strong emotional connection to it.
Donis explained that he understands the “DNA” of the Saudi player very well, noting that the local player possesses high technical abilities and only needs confidence and organization to deliver their best.
He also pointed out his role in bringing several players to the Saudi national team, including Feras Al-Buraikan, Nawaf Boushal, Murad Hossawi, and Saleh Abu Shamat, affirming his pride in contributing to their development and preparation for international play.
Donis concluded his remarks by emphasizing that Saudi football has a promising future, and that investing in talent and technical stability are two essential elements for achieving future successes.
