The strong winds accompanying the storm “Buoilo” caused a passenger plane belonging to “Gate 2” to veer off the runway at Birmingham Airport in the UK during landing, before it returned to its path and continued moving within the airport, with no injuries reported.
The incident occurred during the landing of flight LS1310 coming from the city of Venice, Italy, amidst turbulent weather conditions experienced in Birmingham and other areas of the West Midlands region.
A circulated video showed the plane veering from the paved runway to the adjacent grassy area, before regaining its path and heading towards the aircraft parking area. Media reports indicated that passengers left the plane normally.
The incident coincided with strong winds that hit parts of the UK over the weekend, while the British Met Office warned of the storm’s effects in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and parts of northern England.
Strong crosswinds are among the main challenges during aircraft landings, as they can affect stability and alignment with the runway, especially under harsh weather conditions.
