The Egyptian actress Mona Zaki recalled the most significant moments of her artistic journey during the seminar “Behind Stardom” as part of the ninth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, discussing the criticisms she faced due to the film “The Lady,” and the reasons for her acceptance of “Friends or No Friends,” along with her memories of the late artist Ahmed Zaki.
The Attack on the Film “The Lady”
Mona Zaki confirmed that the criticisms directed at the film “The Lady” had a psychological impact on her, especially after she felt that the attack extended to participants in the work who were not accustomed to facing such situations. She pointed out that despite this, she is happy with the experience, which she undertook out of a desire to test her acting abilities and present a new artistic challenge.
The Secret Behind Her Acceptance of “Friends or No Friends”
She explained that her attraction to the script of “Friends or No Friends” was the main reason for accepting the role, without anticipating the level of controversy the film would generate after its release. She emphasized that she does not choose her works to provoke controversy, but rather seeks characters that give her the opportunity to explore different aspects of her talent.
She stressed the importance of distinguishing between the actor and the character they portray, clarifying that playing roles that carry different ideas or behaviors does not mean adopting them in personal life, as acting is based on embodying diverse human models within a dramatic context.
Her Memories with Ahmed Zaki
