حين يولد الطفل لا يحتاج إلى دورة لاكتشاف ذاته، ولا إلى اختبار ميول، ولا إلى استبيان يقيس شغفه. يولد وفي داخله بذور فطرية مدهشة؛ فضول لا ينتهي، وأسئلة لا تتوقف، وموهبة تنتظر من يكتشفها ويمنحها الماء والضوء.
لكن السؤال الذي يفرض نفسه اليوم: من الذي أفسد هذه الفطرة؟ ومن الذي جعل آلاف الأطفال يعبرون سنوات الطفولة والمراهقة وهم لا يعرفون ماذا يحبون، ولا فيما يبدعون، ولا أين تكمن مواطن تميّزهم؟
من السهل أن نوجه أصابع الاتهام إلى المدرسة. فالمدرسة الحديثة، في كثير من الأحيان، أصبحت منشغلة بالمنهج أكثر من الإنسان، وبالدرجات أكثر من المواهب، وبإنهاء المقررات أكثر من اكتشاف القدرات. يدخل الطالب بفضول طفل، ويخرج أحياناً بعقل يحفظ الإجابات النموذجية فقط. كم من رسام أُجبر على أن يكون حافظاً، وكم من مبدع في الحكاية أو المسرح أو الرياضة لم يجد من يقول له يوماً: «أنت موهوب».
لكن تحميل المدرسة وحدها المسؤولية يبدو ظلماً للحقيقة. فالأسرة أيضاً تغيّرت كثيراً. كان الأب والأم يوماً ما أكثر حضوراً في تفاصيل حياة الأبناء؛ يعرفان أصدقاءهم، ويشاركانهم اللعب، ويلاحظان نقاط قوتهم وضعفهم.
أما اليوم فقد أصبح كثير من الآباء والأمهات غارقين في دوامة العمل أو الانشغال أو حتى الشاشات الخاصة بهم. صار الهاتف الذكي في بعض البيوت أقرب إلى الطفل من والديه، وأصبحت الهدية الأسهل جهازاً جديداً لا وقتاً جديداً.
ثم يأتي الدور الأخطر: الجو العام الذي يحيط بالطفل. نحن نعيش عصراً يتنافس فيه الجميع على خطف انتباهه. شركات الألعاب الإلكترونية، ومنصات الفيديو القصير، وتطبيقات التواصل، كلها تعمل ليل نهار كي يبقى الطفل أطول وقت ممكن أمام الشاشة.
لم تعد المنافسة على وقته فقط، بل على عقله وخياله واهتماماته. الطفل الذي كان يركض في الحي، ويبني من الرمل مدينة، ويفكك لعبة ليعرف كيف تعمل، أصبح يقضي ساعات طويلة يتلقى المتعة جاهزة بضغطة زر.
المشكلة ليست في التقنية ذاتها، فهي أداة يمكن أن تكون نافعة ومذهلة. المشكلة أننا استسلمنا لها. منحناها مهمة التربية والترفيه والإشغال، ثم استغربنا حين تراجعت القراءة، وضعفت الهوايات، وانكمش الخيال.
أصبح كثير من الأطفال يعرفون أسماء المؤثرين أكثر مما يعرفون أسماء العلماء والأدباء والمخترعين. يحفظون مراحل لعبة إلكترونية معقدة، لكنهم لا يعرفون ما الذي يحبون فعله في حياتهم الحقيقية.
المؤلم أن الطفل لا يطلب الكثير. إنه يحتاج إلى من يجلس معه، يستمع إليه، ويمنحه فرصة للتجربة. يحتاج إلى ملعب، وكتاب، ومسرح، ومختبر، وفرشاة رسم، وإلى شخص يقول له: جرّب. فالطفولة ليست مرحلة لاستهلاك المحتوى، بل لاكتشاف الذات.
ولهذا فإن السؤال الحقيقي ليس: من المذنب؟ بل من يعلق الجرس؟ من يبدأ بإعادة الاعتبار للطفل بوصفه مشروع إنسان لا مجرد مستخدم صغير للأجهزة؟
نحتاج إلى مدرسة ترى الموهبة قبل الدرجة، وتبحث عن التميّز الفردي قبل النتائج الجماعية. ونحتاج إلى معلم يدرك أن أعظم أثر يتركه ليس في ورقة اختبار، بل في اكتشاف طالب لم يكن يعرف أنه قادر على الإبداع. ونحتاج إلى أسرة تستعيد حضورها وهيبتها، لا بالصوت المرتفع والرقابة فقط، بل بالقرب والاهتمام والمشاركة.
كما نحتاج إلى خطاب اجتماعي جديد يعيد للقراءة مكانتها، وللهوايات قيمتها، وللأنشطة الثقافية والرياضية والفنية حضورها الطبيعي. فالأمم لا تُبنى فقط بالمتفوقين أكاديمياً، بل بالمبدعين والمخترعين والفنانين والمفكرين وأصحاب الشغف.
لقد نجحت الشاشات في سرقة جزء كبير من وقت أطفالنا، لكنها لم تنتصر بعد. ما زالت الفطرة موجودة، وما زالت المواهب مختبئة خلف طبقات من الانشغال والضجيج. وما زال بإمكان الأسرة والمدرسة أن تستعيدا دورهما إذا أدركنا أن القضية ليست قضية أجهزة وهواتف، بل قضية إنسان يتشكل.
فالطفل الذي لا يكتشف موهبته مبكراً قد يعيش عمراً طويلاً يبحث عن نفسه. أما الطفل الذي يجد من يؤمن به ويمنحه فرصة التعبير عن فطرته، فإنه غالباً لا ينجح فقط، بل يضيء الطريق لغيره.
وربما كان السؤال الذي يجب أن نغادر به: كم موهبة خسرناها لأننا انشغلنا بإسكات الطفل بدلاً من الإنصات إليه؟
When a child is born, they do not need a course to discover themselves, nor a test to assess their inclinations, nor a survey to measure their passion. They are born with amazing innate seeds; an endless curiosity, unceasing questions, and a talent waiting for someone to discover it and provide it with water and light.
But the question that imposes itself today is: who has corrupted this nature? And who has made thousands of children pass through childhood and adolescence without knowing what they love, what they excel in, or where their points of distinction lie?
It is easy to point fingers at the school. The modern school, in many cases, has become more preoccupied with the curriculum than with the human being, with grades more than talents, and with finishing the syllabus more than discovering abilities. A student enters with the curiosity of a child and sometimes leaves with a mind that only memorizes model answers. How many artists have been forced to be mere memorizers, and how many storytellers, theater performers, or athletes have not found anyone to tell them one day: “You are talented.”
However, placing the blame solely on the school seems unfair to the truth. The family has also changed a lot. Once upon a time, fathers and mothers were more present in the details of their children’s lives; they knew their friends, played with them, and noticed their strengths and weaknesses.
Today, many fathers and mothers have become engulfed in the whirlpool of work or distractions or even their own screens. In some homes, the smartphone has become closer to the child than their parents, and the easiest gift has become a new device rather than new time.
Then comes the more dangerous role: the general atmosphere surrounding the child. We live in an era where everyone competes to capture their attention. Video game companies, short video platforms, and social media applications all work day and night to keep the child in front of the screen for as long as possible.
The competition is no longer just for their time, but for their minds, imaginations, and interests. The child who used to run in the neighborhood, build a city out of sand, and dismantle a toy to see how it works now spends long hours receiving ready-made entertainment at the push of a button.
The problem is not in the technology itself; it is a tool that can be beneficial and amazing. The problem is that we have surrendered to it. We have entrusted it with the tasks of education, entertainment, and engagement, and then we were surprised when reading declined, hobbies weakened, and imagination shrank.
Many children now know the names of influencers more than they know the names of scientists, writers, and inventors. They memorize the stages of a complex video game, but they do not know what they love to do in their real lives.
The painful truth is that the child does not ask for much. They need someone to sit with them, listen to them, and give them a chance to experiment. They need a playground, a book, a theater, a laboratory, a paintbrush, and someone to say to them: “Try.” Childhood is not a stage for consuming content, but for discovering oneself.
Therefore, the real question is not: who is to blame? But who will ring the bell? Who will start to restore the child’s status as a project of a human being, not just a small user of devices?
We need a school that sees talent before grades and looks for individual excellence before collective results. We need a teacher who understands that the greatest impact they leave is not on a test paper, but in discovering a student who did not know they were capable of creativity. We need a family that regains its presence and authority, not just through loud voices and supervision, but through closeness, attention, and participation.
We also need a new social discourse that restores the value of reading, the importance of hobbies, and the natural presence of cultural, sports, and artistic activities. Nations are not built only by academically superior individuals, but by creators, inventors, artists, thinkers, and passionate individuals.
The screens have succeeded in stealing a large part of our children’s time, but they have not yet won. The innate nature still exists, and talents are still hidden behind layers of distraction and noise. The family and school can still reclaim their roles if we realize that the issue is not about devices and phones, but about a human being in formation.
The child who does not discover their talent early may live a long life searching for themselves. However, the child who finds someone who believes in them and gives them the opportunity to express their nature often not only succeeds but lights the way for others.
Perhaps the question we should leave with is: how many talents have we lost because we were preoccupied with silencing the child instead of listening to them?
