Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov confirmed today (Sunday) that Europe’s participation in discussions aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine is essential, considering that its position could be decisive.
Ushakov stated in a press interview that the U.S. administration appeared, following the Anchorage meeting in Alaska in 2025 between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, to be making efforts to achieve peace with Ukraine and was capable of pushing Kyiv to accept the terms of a settlement; however, these efforts have not yielded tangible results.
He added that negotiating solely with Kyiv is insufficient, given the full European support for Ukraine, emphasizing the necessity of involving European countries in any efforts to reach an agreement.
Ushakov clarified that Russia is ready to resume trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and the United States after Russia’s National Unity Day on November 4, confirming previous statements from the Kremlin regarding Putin’s readiness to resume negotiations mediated by Washington next month.
The European Union initially left the mediation task of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war to Trump before taking cautious steps towards Moscow.
Leaders from Britain, Germany, and France announced their support for a proposal to hold talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Putin, in an effort to reach a ceasefire, affirming that Europe will play a role in these efforts.
Zelensky announced on Friday that negotiators from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States agreed to hold a technical meeting in Abu Dhabi during the first half of November, expressing hope that the meeting would pave the way for a meeting between the leaders of the three countries.
