وجاءت هذه الزيادة في ظل تصاعد التوترات في الشرق الأوسط بعد الهجمات الأمريكية والإسرائيلية على إيران، الأمر الذي أدى إلى ارتفاع أسعار النفط.

وتوقع محللون أن تؤدي كل زيادة قدرها 10 دولارات في أسعار النفط الخام إلى رفع سعر البنزين بنحو 25 سنتاً للغالون. وأشارت إحدى الشركات المتخصصة إلى احتمال وصول الأسعار إلى 3.25 دولار للغالون هذا الأسبوع إذا استمرت الأزمة.
ورأى محللون أن ارتفاع أسعار الوقود يشكل اختباراً لشعبية الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب مع اقتراب انتخابات التجديد النصفي في نوفمبر، خصوصاً أن استطلاعاً أظهر أن نحو نصف المشاركين قد يقل دعمهم للحملة ضد إيران إذا ارتفعت أسعار الوقود.
The average price of gasoline in the United States surpassed $3 per gallon yesterday, for the first time since November, according to OPIS data.
This increase came amid rising tensions in the Middle East following American and Israeli attacks on Iran, which led to a spike in oil prices.
Popularity Test
Analysts predicted that every $10 increase in crude oil prices would raise gasoline prices by about 25 cents per gallon. One specialized company indicated that prices could reach $3.25 per gallon this week if the crisis continues.
Analysts believe that rising fuel prices pose a test for the popularity of U.S. President Donald Trump as the midterm elections approach in November, especially since a poll showed that nearly half of the participants might reduce their support for the campaign against Iran if fuel prices rise.
