دعا المستشار الألماني فريدريش ميرتس، اليوم (الخميس)، إلى منح أوكرانيا دورا مباشرا داخل هياكل الاتحاد الأوروبي كخطوة انتقالية تمهد لانضمامها إلى التكتل، معتبراً أن هذه الخطوة قد تساعد في تسريع التوصل إلى اتفاق ينهي الحرب الروسية.
وشدد ميرتس في رسالة إلى قادة الاتحاد على ضرورة استحداث وضع جديد لأوكرانيا كعضو منتسب، يتيح لمسؤوليها المشاركة في قمم الاتحاد والاجتماعات الوزارية دون الحق في التصويت، ووضع اقتراح يتعهد فيه أعضاء الاتحاد بالتزام سياسي لتطبيق بند المساعدة المتبادلة مع أوكرانيا من أجل توفير ضمان أمني جوهري.
بدوره، قال الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي، إن أوكرانيا أجرت مباحثات مع بريطانيا،أمس، وأرسلت إشارات حول القضية الحساسة المتعلقة بفرض العقوبات على روسيا على أمل مناقشة الموضوع بمزيد من التفصيل لاحقا.
وأشار في كلمة له إلى أن «هذه القضية حساسة للغاية دائما ونقلنا إشاراتنا بشأن هذه المسألة إلى لندن ونتوقع أن تجري مناقشة كل شيء هذا الأسبوع على المستوى الثنائي».
ولم يشر زيلينسكي مباشرة إلى قرار بريطانيا مواصلة السماح باستيراد الديزل ووقود الطائرات المكرر من الخام الروسي في دول ثالثة، مبيناً أن العقوبات التي يفرضها الحلفاء هي الوسيلة الأكثر فعالية للتأثير على روسيا.
وأشار زيلينسكي أنه شكر رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر، على الدعم المقدم لأوكرانيا، موضحاً أن الجانبين ينسقان المواقف الدبلوماسية ويعملان على إحياء الدبلوماسية الجادة.
بدوره، قال مكتب ستارمر إن رئيس الوزراء أكد مجددا دعم بريطانيا لأوكرانيا، مبيناً أن الزعيمين أكدا ضرورة مواصلة الضغط على روسيا.
The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called today (Thursday) for Ukraine to be granted a direct role within the structures of the European Union as a transitional step paving the way for its accession to the bloc, considering that this step could help accelerate reaching an agreement to end the Russian war.
Merz emphasized in a message to EU leaders the necessity of establishing a new status for Ukraine as an associated member, allowing its officials to participate in EU summits and ministerial meetings without the right to vote, and to propose a commitment from EU members to a political obligation to implement the mutual assistance clause with Ukraine to provide substantial security guarantees.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine held talks with Britain yesterday and sent signals regarding the sensitive issue of imposing sanctions on Russia, hoping to discuss the matter in more detail later.
He noted in his speech that “this issue is always very sensitive, and we have conveyed our signals regarding this matter to London, and we expect that everything will be discussed this week at the bilateral level.”
Zelensky did not directly refer to Britain’s decision to continue allowing the import of diesel and refined jet fuel from Russian crude in third countries, indicating that the sanctions imposed by allies are the most effective means to influence Russia.
Zelensky expressed his gratitude to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the support provided to Ukraine, clarifying that both sides are coordinating diplomatic positions and working to revive serious diplomacy.
For his part, Starmer’s office stated that the Prime Minister reaffirmed Britain’s support for Ukraine, indicating that the two leaders emphasized the necessity of continuing to pressure Russia.
