نجحت السلطات الأمريكية في إنقاذ 3 صيادين بعدما تعرض قاربهم للانقلاب في بحيرة إيري إثر عاصفة مفاجئة ضربت المنطقة، فيما ظل أحدهم عالقًا في المياه لساعات قبل العثور عليه وإنقاذه.
وأوضح خفر السواحل الأمريكي في بيان أن مركز عمليات قطاع ديترويت تلقى بلاغًا يفيد بسقوط أشخاص في المياه، ليتم على الفور إطلاق عملية بحث وإنقاذ واسعة في موقع الحادثة.
وبحسب البيان، تمكن طاقم إنقاذ تابع لمحطة ماربلهيد من الوصول إلى الموقع سريعًا، حيث نجح في انتشال شخصين من المياه ونقلهما إلى فرق الإسعاف التي كانت بانتظارهما على شاطئ جزيرة كيليز بولاية أوهايو.
وأكدت السلطات أن الصيادين كانوا يستقلون قاربًا صغيرًا قبل أن تتسبب العاصفة القوية في انقلابه وسقوطهم في البحيرة.
واستمرت عمليات البحث عن الصياد الثالث لساعات، قبل أن تتمكن طائرة هليكوبتر تابعة لفرق الإنقاذ من رصده وهو لا يزال يحاول السباحة وسط البحيرة رغم مرور وقت طويل على الحادثة.
وأشار مسؤولون محليون إلى أن الرجل بقي في المياه لمدة تراوحت بين 4 و4.5 ساعة تقريبًا، بعدما جرفته التيارات بعيدًا عن موقع القارب المنقلب.
وفي نهاية المطاف، تمكنت فرق الإنقاذ من انتشاله ونقله إلى بر الأمان، حيث جرى تحويله إلى المستشفى لتلقي الرعاية الطبية، إلى جانب أحد الناجين، بينما نُقل المصاب الثالث إلى مستشفى آخر لاستكمال العلاج.
The American authorities successfully rescued 3 fishermen after their boat capsized in Lake Erie due to a sudden storm that hit the area, while one of them remained stranded in the water for hours before being found and rescued.
The U.S. Coast Guard stated in a press release that the Detroit Sector Operations Center received a report of individuals falling into the water, prompting an immediate large-scale search and rescue operation at the incident site.
According to the statement, a rescue crew from the Marblehead Station was able to reach the site quickly, successfully retrieving two individuals from the water and transporting them to the emergency teams waiting for them on the shore of Kelley’s Island in Ohio.
The authorities confirmed that the fishermen were aboard a small boat before the strong storm caused it to capsize, leading to their fall into the lake.
The search for the third fisherman continued for hours, until a rescue helicopter was able to spot him still attempting to swim in the lake despite the long time that had passed since the incident.
Local officials indicated that the man remained in the water for approximately 4 to 4.5 hours, as he was swept away by the currents far from the location of the capsized boat.
Ultimately, the rescue teams managed to retrieve him and bring him to safety, where he was taken to the hospital for medical care, along with one of the survivors, while the third injured individual was transported to another hospital for further treatment.
