وفي التسجيل الصوتي المفرج عنه، والمؤرخ في 31 ديسمبر 1969، يصف رواد الفضاء أعضاء طاقم «أبولو 12» تشارلز كونراد، وريتشارد غوردون طيار وحدة القيادة، وألان بين طيار بوحدة القمر، رؤيتهم لـ«خطوط ضوئية» أو «ومضات وخطوط من الضوء» أثناء محاولتهم النوم داخل المركبة الفضائية في الظلام الدامس للفضاء السحيق.
وقال الرواد إن هذه الظاهرة حدثت رغم إغلاق أعينهم، مما أثار دهشتهم خلال المهمة التي كانت الثانية لهبوط بشري على سطح القمر.
وفي نص التسجيل، يصف رواد الفضاء مراقبتهم للومضات وهم مستيقظون في المركبة الفضائية، حيث قال أحدهم إن الخطوط بدت «تقريبًا في نفس المكان»، بينما قال آخر إنه رآها بزاوية «30 درجة تقريبًا عن الوضع الأفقي».
وناقش الطاقم والفريق الطبي ما إذا كانت الومضات عشوائية أم موجهة، وما إذا كانت تظهر في عين واحدة أم كلتيهما. قال أحد رواد الفضاء إنه يستطيع عادةً تحديد العين التي رصدت الومضة بعد الانتظار لفترة كافية لمراقبتها.
تأتي هذه الدفعة الثانية ضمن برنامج نظام الإفصاح الرئاسي لمواجهات الظواهر الجوية غير المحددة، الذي أمر به الرئيس الأمريكي، حيث تضم الملفات الجديدة أكثر من 40 مقطع فيديو، بالإضافة إلى وثائق وتسجيلات صوتية من مهام ناسا التاريخية.
ووفقاً للوصف الرسمي على موقع وزارة الدفاع، أفاد كل رائد فضاء بتجربة هذه الومضات في الظلام أثناء محاولة النوم، حيث كانت “ناسا” قد درست هذه الظاهرة سابقاً، وخلصت إلى أنها قد تكون ناتجة عن تأثيرات بصرية داخلية ناجمة عن أشعة كونية عالية الطاقة تتفاعل مع شبكية العين أو العصب البصري.

The Pentagon has declassified a new batch of files on unidentified aerial phenomena, popularly known as “unidentified flying objects,” which included rare audio recordings from a medical interrogation session conducted after the Apollo 12 mission in 1969.
In the released audio recording, dated December 31, 1969, astronauts Charles Conrad, Richard Gordon, the command module pilot, and Alan Bean, the lunar module pilot of “Apollo 12,” describe their sighting of “light streaks” or “flashes and lines of light” while trying to sleep inside the spacecraft in the pitch-blackness of deep space.
The astronauts stated that this phenomenon occurred despite their eyes being closed, which surprised them during the mission that was the second human landing on the moon’s surface.
In the transcript of the recording, the astronauts describe observing the flashes while awake in the spacecraft, with one stating that the lines appeared “almost in the same place,” while another mentioned seeing them at an angle of “about 30 degrees from the horizontal position.”
The crew and the medical team discussed whether the flashes were random or directed, and whether they appeared in one eye or both. One astronaut said he could usually determine which eye detected the flash after waiting long enough to observe it.
This second batch is part of the presidential disclosure system program for encounters with unidentified aerial phenomena, ordered by the U.S. president, and the new files include over 40 video clips, as well as documents and audio recordings from historic NASA missions.
According to the official description on the Department of Defense website, each astronaut reported experiencing these flashes in the dark while attempting to sleep, as “NASA” had previously studied this phenomenon and concluded that it might be caused by internal visual effects resulting from high-energy cosmic rays interacting with the retina or optic nerve.
This disclosure is part of broader efforts for government transparency regarding unexplained phenomena, following the first batch released on May 8, 2026, which included images and reports from other Apollo missions.
The new recordings have sparked widespread interest among researchers in space phenomena, with some seeing them as adding a new layer to the stories of mysterious sightings that accompanied the Apollo program, while scientists assert that most of these phenomena have known physical and biological explanations.
