يعود استاد أزتيكا المكسيكي إلى واجهة كأس العالم مجددًا في نسخة 2026 القادمة، بعدما أصبح أول ملعب في تاريخ البطولة يستضيف مباريات في 3 نسخ مختلفة من المونديال، عقب ظهوره السابق في نسختي 1970 و1986.
ولن يتوقف الرقم التاريخي عند هذا الحد، إذ سيصبح أزتيكا أيضًا أول ملعب يحتضن 3 مباريات افتتاحية في تاريخ كأس العالم، بعدما استضاف افتتاح نسختي 1970 و1986، قبل أن يعود لافتتاح مونديال 2026 بمواجهة منتخب المكسيك أمام جنوب أفريقيا.
ويرتبط الاستاد الواقع في العاصمة المكسيكية مكسيكو سيتي بأعظم لحظات كرة القدم، بعدما شهد تتويج الأسطورتين بيليه مع منتخب البرازيل عام 1970، ومارادونا مع منتخب الأرجنتين عام 1986، ليصبح الملعب الوحيد الذي جمع بين الأسطورتين في سجل أبطال كأس العالم.
كما شهد الملعب هدف مارادونا الشهير أمام إنجلترا، المعروف بـ«هدف القرن»، في واحدة من أشهر مباريات المونديال عبر التاريخ.

The Mexican Azteca Stadium returns to the forefront of the World Cup once again in the upcoming 2026 edition, after becoming the first stadium in the history of the tournament to host matches in three different World Cup editions, following its previous appearances in 1970 and 1986.
The historical number will not stop there, as Azteca will also become the first stadium to host three opening matches in World Cup history, having hosted the openings of the 1970 and 1986 editions, before returning to open the 2026 World Cup with a match between Mexico and South Africa.
The stadium, located in Mexico City, is linked to the greatest moments in football, having witnessed the crowning of legends Pelé with the Brazil national team in 1970, and Maradona with the Argentina national team in 1986, making it the only stadium that has hosted both legends in the World Cup champions’ record.
The stadium also witnessed Maradona’s famous goal against England, known as the “Goal of the Century,” in one of the most famous matches in World Cup history.
The Azteca Stadium has completed its development works in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, making it ready to host the global event amid great public anticipation for the return of one of the most historically significant stadiums in the World Cup.
