Meteorologists have issued warnings of heavy rains, sudden floods, and dangerous coastal waves as Hurricane “Trudy” approaches the west and southwest of Mexico, with expectations that several states along the Pacific coast will be affected in the coming hours.
The National Hurricane Center reported that “Trudy” is moving northwest with sustained winds of about 150 kilometers per hour, while the center of the hurricane was located approximately 270 kilometers south of Manzanillo this morning (Saturday).
Rainfall of up to 38 centimeters
Forecasts indicate rainfall amounts ranging from 10 to 20 centimeters in parts of the states of Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco, with the possibility of isolated areas receiving up to about 38 centimeters.
Meteorologists warned that the heavy rains could lead to sudden floods and landslides that threaten lives, especially in areas where the soil has been saturated with water due to recent storms that have hit the country.
Coastal warnings
Hurricane warnings are in effect for parts of the Mexican coast between Manzanillo and Cabo Corrientes, with “Trudy” expected to pass near the western coasts of Mexico throughout today and into tomorrow (Sunday).
The center also warned of rising sea levels due to the storm, accompanied by large and destructive waves, as well as dangerous marine currents that could extend over wide areas of the western coast of Mexico during the weekend.
