أسدلت السلطات اليابانية الستار على حالة من القلق والترقب استمرت عدة أيام، بعدما تمكنت من القبض على دب بري أثار الذعر بين سكان إحدى المدن اليابانية، وتسبب في إجراءات استثنائية شملت إغلاق نحو 100 مدرسة وتعطيل عدد من الأنشطة اليومية.
وجاءت عملية القبض على الدب بعد حملة بحث واسعة شاركت فيها الشرطة وفرق الحياة البرية والسلطات المحلية، عقب رصده يتجول في مناطق سكنية مأهولة بالسكان، ما أثار مخاوف من تعرض المواطنين لهجمات محتملة.
ووفقاً للسلطات اليابانية، فقد تم رصد الدب عدة مرات بالقرب من الأحياء السكنية والطرق العامة، الأمر الذي دفع المسؤولين إلى إصدار تحذيرات عاجلة للسكان، وإغلاق عشرات المدارس كإجراء احترازي لحماية التلاميذ والعاملين بها.

وتُعرف الدببة الآسيوية السوداء المنتشرة في اليابان بقوتها الكبيرة، ورغم أنها تتجنب الإنسان عادة، فإنها قد تصبح خطيرة عندما تشعر بالتهديد أو أثناء بحثها عن الطعام قرب المناطق المأهولة.
