The Hong Kong police managed to recover a quantity of gold valued at approximately 30 million Hong Kong dollars, equivalent to 3.8 million US dollars, after it was stolen from a room in a hotel in the Kwun Tong area, in a meticulously executed operation.
The case began after the police received a report from a Chinese man who stated that about 30 kilograms of pure gold pellets were stolen from his bag while he was staying at the hotel.
According to his statement, the perpetrators replaced the gold with eight bottles of fabric softener, which were similar in weight, in an attempt to conceal the theft and delay its discovery. The incident coincided with the disappearance of a friend who was sharing the room with him, adding further mystery to the circumstances of the case.
Investigations led to the arrest of two men suspected of being involved in the theft, while the police continue their inquiries to uncover the details of the planning behind the operation and to verify the possibility of other accomplices being involved in the incident.
