The eyes of Saudi and continental football fans are directed this evening (Monday) towards the Asian stadiums, where the representatives of the nation (Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr, and Al-Qadsiah) will kick off their matches in the second round of the AFC Champions League for the elite. The Saudi clubs enter this round under one slogan and a common goal, which is to achieve full points and enhance their positions in the continental ranking.
Al-Qadsiah faces a heavy challenge
against Pakhtakor with aspirations for the top spot
The Al-Qadsiah team enters the match with high spirits, eager to continue their winning streak after successfully securing three valuable points in the first round by defeating Al-Wasl from the UAE with a score of 2-1, placing them in third place with 3 points. The team relies on the readiness of its players and their ability to adapt to the away atmosphere to return with a positive result that supports their chances of seizing the top position early.
On the other hand, Uzbek Pakhtakor (ninth place with one point) is looking to exploit the home advantage and crowd support to achieve their first victory in the tournament, after managing to secure a positive draw against Al-Ahli with a goal for each team in the last round. The Asian Football Confederation has assigned a South Korean officiating crew to manage the match, led by international referee Choi Hyun-Jae, assisted by Kim Woo-Sung and Chang Jung-Pil, while Ko Hyung will oversee the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Al-Ahli clashes with Al-Wasl from the UAE in search of their first win
The Al-Ahli team visits Al-Wasl from the UAE in a purely Gulf summit, and the “Raqi” team is looking in this match to reconcile with their fans and achieve their first victory in the group stage after stumbling with a draw in the opening round against Pakhtakor, currently occupying tenth place with one point. The technical staff of Al-Ahli seeks to address offensive mistakes and impose the team’s usual style to secure the match points, despite the confirmed absence of their Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy due to injury.
On the other side, Al-Wasl enters the match in a difficult position after their first loss against Al-Qadsiah, leaving them in eleventh place without any points. The Emirati team is earnestly striving to compensate for the setback and attempt to achieve a positive result at home and among their fans, with the Gulf summit being officiated by an international Qatari refereeing crew led by international referee Abdulrahman Al-Jassim.
Al-Nassr hosts Neftchi Fergana to restore pride and heal wounds
At their home ground in Riyadh, Al-Nassr faces a decisive match that cannot be divided when they host Uzbek Neftchi Fergana. The “Global” team is strongly seeking to erase the lackluster image they displayed in the first round and compensate for their heavy loss against Al-Ain from the UAE with a score of 4-0, which caused them to drop to sixteenth and last place without any points. Al-Nassr enters the match led by their star Cristiano Ronaldo with the aim of winning by a significant margin to return strongly to the competition and reconcile with their fans.
For their part, Neftchi Fergana arrives in Riyadh with high morale after their valuable victory in the first round against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya from Iraq with a score of 1-0, placing them in sixth place with 3 points. The Uzbek team aims to confirm their superiority and secure a positive result from the heart of the capital, Riyadh, with the match being officiated by international Chinese referee Ma Ning as the main referee.
