The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority “SDAIA” and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission launched an awareness campaign titled “You See AI” to raise awareness about the risks of deepfake technologies based on artificial intelligence, and to enhance the community’s ability to consciously deal with digital content, which may include fake clips that mislead the audience into believing their authenticity, potentially leading to the spread of misleading information that does not serve the community.
The campaign, which coincides with the Year of Artificial Intelligence 2026, aims to empower individuals in the community to protect their personal data and enhance their skills in verifying content before believing, publishing, or sharing it, in light of the rapid advancement of technologies for generating images, videos, and audio recordings, and their ability to mimic people’s features and voices in a way that makes it difficult to rely solely on viewing or listening to judge the authenticity of the content.
The campaign addresses the concept of deepfakes in its various forms and highlights its dangers, including the spread of misleading information, fraud, identity theft, and harming individuals’ reputations. It also provides practical guidelines for protecting visual and audio identities and personal data, recognizing indicators that may suggest content manipulation, and referring to original and reliable sources to verify its accuracy and context.
The campaign emphasizes the importance of not treating circulated clips as conclusive evidence merely because a person appears in them or their voice is heard, and not rushing to repost sensational content or build upon it, as sharing it without verification may contribute to the expansion of deception and reinforce the fallacies associated with it.
This campaign is part of the efforts of SDAIA and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission to raise community awareness about the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence tools, and to establish a culture of verification and critical thinking as the first line of defense against the risks of deepfakes, contributing to building a safe and reliable digital environment.
