The Ukrainian Navy announced today (Thursday) the destruction of 6 Russian military aircraft of the “Sukhoi-34M” model in a nighttime attack targeting the Borisoglebsk airport in the Voronezh region of Russia.
The Ukrainian Navy stated in a statement via the Telegram app that the attack on the airport was carried out using the coastal missile system “Neptune,” while Reuters was unable to independently verify the reports coming from the battlefield.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces shot down 4 long-range “Flamingo” missiles and 69 drones while repelling the attack that targeted the Ryazan region, confirming that a fire broke out at an oil refinery due to the debris from one of the drones, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the Financial Times published today that he has ended a temporary suspension of attacks on oil refineries, which he had announced following statements from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a ceasefire in the energy sector.
Zelensky added that he would not agree to halt these strikes unless the United States provides Ukraine with “Patriot” interceptor missiles, given the shortage Kyiv faces in the air defense systems necessary to counter Russian attacks.
In contrast, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that its defenses shot down 536 drones out of 580 launched by Russia during the past night, along with two guided missiles of the “Kh-59” type fired from the air over the Black Sea.
The Air Force reported that the Russian attacks included “Shahed” drones and other decoy drones launched from several areas within Russia, in addition to areas in Donetsk and the Crimean Peninsula under Russian control.
In a related context, the Russian Federal Security Service announced the arrest of a Swedish citizen in the Sebezh area of the Pskov region, accusing him of illegally crossing the Russian border and planning to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts targeting military facilities.
The agency stated that the detainee had previously served, from February to June 2026, under contract in a formation it described as terrorist, where he led a drone squadron within the 24th Independent Assault Battalion, adding that he has documents it claims prove the Swede’s participation in combat operations against Russia alongside Ukrainian forces.
It clarified that a criminal case has been opened against him on charges of illegally crossing the border, while consideration is being given to opening two additional cases related to organizing and participating in activities of a group classified as terrorist and working as a mercenary.
