I begin with a necessary condolence to the Saudi leadership and the Saudi people for the martyrs among Saudis and residents due to the recent Houthi attacks on airports. There are words that must be said, as these reckless and foolish assaults prove that the Houthi group is nothing more than a criminal terrorist militia that pays no heed to international law or humanitarian law. They do not adhere to the rules of war, its traditions, and its established norms, which dictate that women and children should not be targeted, and that civilian objects, hospitals, and civilian airports should not be attacked.
The cost of aggression is miscalculated by the sinful aggressor when they read “patience” as a guarantee for impunity, and that “humanity” is a loophole for rebellion and crossing red lines.
This was made clear by the strike carried out by the “Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen led by Saudi Arabia” against the Houthi militia on the ground, in response to the targeting of Riyadh Airport and energy facilities in the Kingdom.
The red lines that the militia crossed with its assaults on the Kingdom’s airports and energy facilities delineate the point at which deterrence becomes necessary to protect sovereignty, and the consequences of the crime become a price borne by the criminal.
There is no doubt that a militia with such characteristics should not be classified as anything other than terrorist. It is on par with “Al-Qaeda,” “ISIS,” and the Shiite militia factions in terms of terrorism. I am not inclined to describe it as committing “war crimes,” because they are remnants of bandits hiding in caves and in the mountains. They have no concern other than killing and causing as much physical, material, and economic damage as possible, thinking that they are “extorting” Saudi Arabia. It has become as clear as the sun that an evil state like Iran – which employs its Houthi proxy whenever its pain from sanctions and American strikes increases – has instructed it to launch strikes against Saudi Arabia, claiming that this would hurt the United States and damage its interests. This is a great falsehood!
Saudi Arabia is an independent state with leadership and sovereignty, and it has every right to ally with whatever countries it wishes, and to the degrees of partnership it desires. Its alliance with the United States is not hidden from the world; it is a historic, tried, and proven alliance. America is not alone in its close relationship with Saudi Arabia. There is the European Union, France, Britain, Pakistan, Turkey, China, and Russia. The common interests that unite these alliances are the economy and energy, the lifeblood of the entire globe. These are alliances not aimed at aggression against any state; rather, Saudi Arabia has never sought dominance over other countries or control over peoples since its establishment.
On the other hand, the Houthi masters want to be a thorn in Saudi Arabia’s side. This is extortion that Saudi Arabia will not accept, no matter the cost. It is logical and rational for Riyadh to refuse to accept harm from a neighboring country, which shares with its people ties of kinship, history, and geography, or geopolitics to be more precise. When it found itself compelled to assist the Yemeni legitimacy, it did so – through an international coalition against the Houthi coup, and the UN Resolution No. 2216 – to affirm support for legitimacy and demand the Houthis withdraw, relinquish their weapons, and cease actions that threaten neighboring countries.
But the “people of the cave” follow each other! They do not emerge from their caves and the depths of their mountains except to attack cities, airports, and mosques; they do not respect any sanctity in the Sacred House of God in Mecca, nor in the Mosque of His Prophet, peace be upon him, in Medina, let alone airports and mosques. They are transferring the essence of evil from “Hormuz” to “Bab al-Mandab” with “carbon”! This confirms that the Houthis represent a unique school of cowardice, hatred, and stupidity. When Iran decided to close the vital Strait of Hormuz for oil, gas, and trade exports, it instructed its Houthi agent to occupy Bab al-Mandab and close it!
Saudi Arabia does not bow to anyone. The actions of the Houthis have united the Yemeni people against them, standing as one man to launch “The Dawn of Yemen” operation, which achieved significant results, including field advances, liberation of territory, and the removal of Houthi elements from Bab al-Mandab and the islands overlooking it. The Houthi was not the first agent to terrorize civilians and civilian objects in Saudi Arabia. The “Al-Qaeda” and “ISIS” organizations have gone down this path… With persistent patience and well-crafted security strategies, they became “a thing of the past,” while Saudi Arabia remained steadfast, building its Vision 2030, becoming another attractive destination for Western, Arab, and national investments, achieving unprecedented social openness and economic reform in its history under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.
Tomorrow, the fate of the Houthis and their agents will be extinction. Tomorrow, their end will be the “dump” as they become a black mark in the history of happy Yemen. And Saudi Arabia will remain the eternal support for Yemen, the neighboring and sister country, bound by history, geography, and kinship!
