Heavy rains caused by severe weather led to the complete erosion of soil beneath a house in a scene captured by passerby cameras and circulated on social media.
The incident occurred in the tourist area of Sapanca in Sakarya Province (northwestern Turkey); where video footage showed the moments when the three-story house collapsed after it became threatened with collapse due to the erosion of the surrounding soil.
According to circulating information, the residents of the house had evacuated it earlier after noticing dangerous signs regarding its stability, which prevented any human injuries when it collapsed.
Details indicate that the house was built near one of the valleys, and the floods formed by heavy rains led to the erosion of the soil beneath its foundations, causing it to lose balance before collapsing and being completely destroyed.
Sapanca is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Turkey, attracting large numbers of visitors due to its mountainous nature and homes scattered among forests and water bodies.
The incident comes amid a wave of heavy rains that have hit several areas in northwestern Turkey in recent days, causing human and material losses, as well as extensive damage to infrastructure and property.
