Today (Tuesday), direct Israeli accusations against the Lebanese military institution escalated regarding its laxity in dismantling the military structures of Hezbollah south of the Litani River, coinciding with the start of the trilateral military talks between Lebanon, Israel, and the United States in Tampa, Florida.
The Israeli army released footage it claimed documented the targeting of a weapons transport truck from a military site in southern Lebanon, which had previously been requested to be dealt with through the international mechanism, alleging prior coordination or evacuation of the weapons. This video was quickly presented by the Israeli side during the technical meetings in Tampa to pressure the reduced Lebanese military delegation, which consisted of only three officers.
This field campaign was complemented by a public political escalation initiated by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who announced the rejection of withdrawal from the security zone in southern Lebanon — which spans seven hundred square kilometers — before disarming Hezbollah throughout the country, hinting at advancing towards Nabatieh and the Litani River to permanently annex the area, and threatening to target the southern suburb of Beirut in the event of any attack on the north, reflecting the use of the field card to extort the Lebanese negotiating position and impose a new reality on the ground.
In contrast, the Lebanese army leadership placed these accusations in the context of attempts to undermine its credibility locally and internationally amid ongoing negotiations, clarifying in a statement the details of the documented facts with the International Oversight Committee (Mechanism).
The leadership stated that its units began dealing with the relevant military site in the south since December 2025, but were forced to evacuate it and halt work at the request of the committee due to direct Israeli threats to bomb it, despite being informed of the presence of remaining munitions. Attempts to continue the unloading were met with repeated Israeli refusals, before the mission was resumed later and the site was permanently closed.
The leadership also revealed that the footage of the targeted truck pertains to a different date and location and has no relation to the mentioned site, reiterating its commitment to fulfilling its obligations and confronting ongoing attempts at misinformation and violations.
