Indian police investigations revealed details of a murder plotted to appear as a hit-and-run incident, after a woman was accused of planning to get rid of her husband with the help of her lover, in preparation for marrying him.
According to the “Indian Express,” police in Karnataka arrested Ashwini, 30 years old, her lover Anand Kalor, 25 years old, and a third person, as well as a minor on suspicion of their involvement in the crime.
The details of the case date back to October 4, when Rajasekhar Piradar, 42 years old, was killed after being hit by a car while he was out for a morning walk in Vijayapura.
Following the incident, his wife filed a report with the police, stating that an unknown car had hit her husband and its driver fled the scene. However, reviewing surveillance footage raised the investigators’ suspicions, as they observed the car moving at an unreasonable speed, along with the presence of a person who seemed to be monitoring the victim’s movements before the incident.
As the investigation deepened, threads of a relationship between the wife and her lover began to emerge, whom she had met about seven months prior when she hired him to paint her new house. According to what the police uncovered, their relationship developed before it was suspected that they had agreed to get rid of the husband to clear the way for their own relationship.
According to the police account, Ashwini is suspected of informing her lover on the morning of the crime that her husband was going out for a walk, prompting the latter to track his movements using a motorcycle, and then relay his location to his accomplices, one of whom hit him with a black car without license plates.
After committing the crime, the suspects left the scene, believing that the man’s death would be recorded as a hit-and-run, away from any criminal suspicion.
However, the plan did not withstand the investigations; surveillance footage, along with the discrepancies between the lover’s statements and the wife’s account, led to suspicions against the suspects, ultimately resulting in their arrest for questioning regarding the circumstances of the incident.
Rajasekhar Piradar had been married to Ashwini for ten years, and they have twin children who are six years old, according to the newspaper.
