The Kingdom achieved the first rank in the Gulf region and the twelfth globally among 55 pension systems included in the Marsh and CFA Institute Global Pension Index for 2026 (formerly Mercer), after its overall score rose to 73.2 points out of 100, compared to 67.6 points in 2025. This progress reflects the improvement of the Kingdom’s position in the international assessment of pension systems.
This achievement is an extension of the Kingdom’s progress in the index, as it moved from the twenty-seventh position among 44 pension systems in 2022 to the twelfth position among 55 systems in 2026, advancing 15 ranks, despite the expansion of the systems included in the assessment during this period.
The Kingdom recorded improvements in the three main axes of the index, achieving a score of 83.5 points in the integrity and reliability axis, an increase of 9.3 points from the previous year, earning a classification of (A), which is the highest rating granted by the index in this axis, measuring the quality of regulatory frameworks, governance, protection of participants’ rights, and communication with them.
The Kingdom’s score in the sustainability axis increased from 54.6 to 61.2 points, with an increase of 6.6 points, while the score in the benefit adequacy axis improved from 75 to 77.2 points, maintaining its overall classification within category (B) in an international assessment that includes 55 pension systems, among which are systems from countries with established experiences in pension and social protection fields.
Saudi Arabia outperformed several countries classified within category (B), including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, and Hong Kong, and recorded the highest score among the Gulf countries included in the assessment, indicating its evolving position in international comparisons of pension systems.
The index results indicate that the Kingdom’s advancement is primarily due to improved evaluation results in several indicators related to integrity and reliability, the development of regulatory frameworks and governance, data updates, as well as the protection of participants’ rights and communication with them.
These results embody the Kingdom’s advanced status in the international assessment of pension systems and provide an incentive to continue efforts to develop the pension and insurance protection system, in which the General Organization for Social Insurance contributes, enhancing the adequacy of benefits and financial sustainability for current and future generations.
The Marsh and CFA Institute Global Pension Index is one of the independent international references specialized in evaluating and comparing pension systems, with its eighteenth edition released in October 2026 in collaboration with the Monash Centre for Financial Studies. The index is based on more than 50 sub-indicators distributed across three main axes: pension benefit adequacy, sustainability, and integrity and reliability, covering approximately 66% of the world’s population.
