The incident involving a journalist being assaulted and falling to the ground has sparked widespread outrage in Bulgaria, with calls for the resignation of Parliament Speaker Mihaila Dotsova.
Video footage documented the assault on journalist Sonya Koltuklieva, which led to her falling to the ground after being pushed by security personnel accompanying the Parliament Speaker.
The journalist wanted to ask Dotsova a question, but she was forcefully pushed, causing her to fall. While the journalist lay motionless on the ground, the Parliament Speaker left the scene in a car with flashing lights. Other journalists and people nearby rushed to assist Koltuklieva.
Bulgarian media reported that an ambulance transported Koltuklieva to a hospital, where medical examinations revealed fractures in her shoulder and collarbone.
Bulgarian sites stated that the journalist wanted to ask a question regarding the reasons for the postponement of parliamentary hearings related to a suspect in drug cases known by the nickname “Escobar Petritch,” a person who had received a pardon in 2022 from then-Vice President Iliyana Yotova.
