فيما أغلقت صناديق الاقتراع في عدد من الولايات الأمريكية، وسط ترقب لنتائج انتخابات التجديد النصفي للكونغرس، لوّح الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب باستخدام صلاحياته الرئاسية لمواجهة الديمقراطيين إذا تمكنوا من انتزاع الأغلبية في مجلس النواب أو مجلس الشيوخ، مؤكداً استعداده لاستخدام حق النقض «الفيتو» لإجهاض التشريعات التي قد يقرّونها.
وقال ترمب، في مقابلة مع شبكة «سي بي إس نيوز»، بالتزامن مع إغلاق مراكز الاقتراع في عدد من الولايات، إنه يمتلك «صلاحيات هائلة» تخوّله مواجهة أي تحركات تشريعية للديمقراطيين، مضيفاً: «لديّ السلطة المطلقة، إنها تُسمى حق النقض».
«السيد فيتو».. سلاح ترمب ضد الديمقراطيين
وأكد الرئيس الأمريكي أنه لن يتردد في استخدام حق النقض ضد التشريعات التي قد يتبناها الديمقراطيون إذا نجحوا في السيطرة على أحد مجلسَي الكونغرس، مرحباً بوصف «السيد فيتو» في إشارة إلى استعداده لتعطيل مشاريع القوانين التي تتعارض مع سياساته.
وتأتي تصريحات ترمب في وقت يواجه فيه الحزب الجمهوري اختباراً انتخابياً حاسماً، وسط توقعات بإمكانية خسارته الأغلبية في مجلس النواب، ما قد يفتح الباب أمام مواجهة سياسية وتشريعية بين البيت الأبيض والكونغرس خلال العامين المتبقيين من الولاية الرئاسية.
خسارة محتملة للجمهوريين
وأشارت استطلاعات رأي أُجريت أواخر أكتوبر الماضي إلى احتمال فقدان الجمهوريين سيطرتهم على مجلس النواب، في ظل منافسة محتدمة مع الديمقراطيين على المقاعد الحاسمة.
ورغم هذه التوقعات، أبدى ترمب تفاؤله بفرص حزبه، مؤكداً أنه بذل كل ما في وسعه لدعم المرشحين الجمهوريين في انتخابات التجديد النصفي.
ترمب: سأواصل برنامجي مهما كانت النتائج
وفي رسالة تحدٍّ لخصومه السياسيين، شدد ترمب على أن نتائج الانتخابات لن تثنيه عن مواصلة تنفيذ أجندته الرئاسية.
وقال: «بغض النظر عن نتائج الانتخابات وتشكيلة الكونغرس العام المقبل، أنا واثق من قدرتي على مواصلة برنامجي خلال العامين المقبلين».
وأشار إلى أن قرارات المحكمة العليا الأمريكية الأخيرة منحته وإدارته صلاحيات تنفيذية واسعة داخل الحكومة الفيدرالية، حتى في حال سعى الكونغرس إلى عرقلة سياساته.
الديمقراطيون ينتزعون مقاعد.. وسباق الكونغرس يحتدم
وفي أولى النتائج التي أعلنتها وسائل الإعلام الأمريكية، فاز الديمقراطيون بثلاثة مقاعد في مجلس النواب بولايات فلوريدا وكونيتيكت، مقابل مقعدين للجمهوريين في الولايتين نفسيهما.
كما أُعلن فوز الديمقراطي مارك وارنر بإعادة انتخابه عضواً في مجلس الشيوخ عن ولاية فرجينيا، في مؤشر على احتدام المنافسة بين الحزبين.

وأُغلقت صناديق الاقتراع في ولايات جورجيا وكونيتيكت وساوث كارولاينا وفرجينيا وإنديانا وفلوريدا وفيرمونت ونيوهامبشر، إلى جانب ولاية أخرى، مع بدء فرز الأصوات وترقب النتائج في الدوائر الانتخابية المتنافس عليها.
وتكتسب انتخابات التجديد النصفي أهمية استثنائية، إذ ستحدد موازين القوى داخل الكونغرس، ومدى قدرة ترمب على تمرير أجندته السياسية والاقتصادية خلال النصف الثاني من ولايته، أو اضطراره إلى مواجهة أغلبية ديمقراطية قد تعرقل مشاريعه التشريعية وتكثف الرقابة على إدارته.

Trump stated in an interview with CBS News, coinciding with the closing of polling centers in several states, that he possesses “enormous powers” that allow him to confront any legislative moves by the Democrats, adding: “I have absolute power; it’s called veto power.”

The U.S. President confirmed that he would not hesitate to use the veto against any legislation that the Democrats might adopt if they succeeded in controlling one of the chambers of Congress, welcoming the title “Mr. Veto” in reference to his readiness to block bills that contradict his policies.
Trump’s remarks come at a time when the Republican Party is facing a critical electoral test, amid expectations that it may lose the majority in the House of Representatives, which could open the door to a political and legislative confrontation between the White House and Congress during the remaining two years of his presidential term.
Potential Loss for the Republicans
Polls conducted in late October indicated the possibility of Republicans losing control of the House of Representatives, amid fierce competition with the Democrats for key seats.
Despite these expectations, Trump expressed optimism about his party’s chances, affirming that he has done everything possible to support Republican candidates in the midterm elections.
Trump: I Will Continue My Agenda Regardless of the Results
In a message of defiance to his political opponents, Trump emphasized that the election results would not deter him from continuing to implement his presidential agenda.
He said: “Regardless of the election results and the composition of Congress next year, I am confident in my ability to continue my agenda over the next two years.”
He noted that recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court granted him and his administration broad executive powers within the federal government, even if Congress sought to obstruct his policies.
Democrats Seize Seats… Congressional Race Heats Up
In the first results announced by U.S. media, Democrats won three seats in the House of Representatives in Florida and Connecticut, compared to two seats for Republicans in the same states.
Democrat Mark Warner was also announced as re-elected as a member of the Senate from Virginia, indicating the intensifying competition between the two parties.

Polling stations closed in Georgia, Connecticut, South Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Florida, Vermont, New Hampshire, and another state, as vote counting began and results were awaited in the contested electoral districts.
The midterm elections hold exceptional importance, as they will determine the balance of power within Congress and the extent to which Trump can advance his political and economic agenda during the second half of his term, or whether he will have to face a Democratic majority that could obstruct his legislative projects and intensify oversight of his administration.
