The prices of gold in Egypt rose during today’s trading (Thursday), coinciding with a strong increase in the yellow metal in global markets, after the ounce rose to record $4125.48, supported by the decline of the US dollar to 53 pounds and developments in the political scene in the United States.
According to data from the “iSaqa” platform for trading gold and jewelry online, the price of a gram of 21-carat gold, the most traded in Egypt, rose to about 6260 pounds, while the price of a gram of 24-carat gold reached about 7154 pounds, and the price of a gram of 18-carat gold was around 5374 pounds, while the price of the gold pound reached 50.08 thousand pounds.
Exchange Rate Decline
The local performance was less than the gains recorded globally, as the decline in the exchange rate of the dollar against the pound limited the full transfer of the ounce’s increase to the Egyptian market. The executive director of the “iSaqa” platform, Said Imbabi, stated: “The price gap in Egypt has seen a notable shift from a negative range of about 6 pounds to a positive range of about 2.18 pounds, which means that the local price has become lower than the theoretical value calculated according to the price of the ounce and the exchange rate, giving the buyer a price advantage.”
Imbabi explained that the decline in the exchange rate of the dollar against the pound below 54 pounds is the main factor behind the limited rise of gold locally compared to global gains.
