The first military investigative judge in Lebanon, Ghada Abu Alwan, issued two in-person arrest warrants against two members of Hezbollah, in connection with the case of the explosives truck that security forces seized at the Dahar al-Baydar checkpoint in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon last October.
Today (Thursday), Abu Alwan interrogated the detainees Ali Al-Kurdi and Haitham Amhaz, as part of the ongoing investigations into the case of the truck that contained a shipment of explosives, which is suspected to be linked to Hezbollah.
The government commissioner to the military court had charged 13 individuals, including two detainees, in connection with the case, while lawyer Al-Asaad, acting as legal counsel for six of the defendants who are not detained, submitted a memorandum of formal defenses, which led to the postponement of their interrogation.
Media sources reported that a judicial source stated that Judge Claude Ghanem charged 12 individuals belonging to Hezbollah, in addition to the wife of one of them, in the case of transporting the explosives truck, on several charges, including violating government decisions, possessing weapons and explosives, and forming illegal associations with the intent to undermine the authority and prestige of the state.
The source clarified that the identities of eight of the defendants have been fully established, including the two detainees and the wife of one of them, while the other five are only known by their military titles, noting that the penalties stipulated in the legal articles charged may reach hard labor for a period of 10 years.
Judge Abu Alwan postponed the session to November 17 of this year, to inform the military public prosecution of the formal defenses and to express its opinion on them, in preparation for making a decision regarding them and resuming investigations in the case.
