In the backdrop where words fell short and the norms of marital relationships were inadequate, the corridors of the UAE judiciary in Ras Al Khaimah witnessed a rare dramatic chapter, as judges issued a ruling to divorce a 43-year-old woman by khula for the second time in just eight months, bringing down the curtain on a marriage that lasted nearly 12 springs and resulted in ten children.
The roots of the story began when the woman sacrificed her job as a teacher, abandoning her professional ambitions to fully dedicate herself to the challenging task of raising ten children alongside five others from her husband’s previous marriage, bringing the total number of children under her care to 15. However, the hell of ongoing disputes, mistreatment, and her feelings of suffocation drove her to seek the courts at the beginning of the year, resulting in her first khula in February. That was not the end, as a surprise occurred when they reconciled through a new marriage contract in May, but the embers of conflict did not cool for more than two months before crises reignited in July, confirming that her life partner had subjected her to the bitterness of cruelty, prevented her from the simplest rights of visiting her family, and unlawfully seized her money, prompting her to insist on divorce, fearing that she would not uphold the limits set by God.
Despite the failed attempts at reconciliation and the husband’s violent insistence on rejecting the khula and trying to take the children, judicial fairness, supported by the reports of the custody committee, resolved the battle in favor of the mother. The ruling granted her an irrevocable divorce while delivering a painful financial blow to the father by obligating him to pay astronomical annual obligations amounting to 227,500 dirhams, covering expenses, housing, and costs for the ten children, ensuring that their custody and educational guardianship remained with a mother who was not defeated by the harshness of circumstances.
