The Spanish news agency revealed that the Chinese platform “Migu,” the exclusive digital partner of La Liga in China until 2030, has removed the match between Real Madrid and Racing Santander from its broadcast schedule and deleted previous matches of the team, in addition to pulling the clips of the two goals scored by French player Kylian Mbappé against Barcelona in the last “El Clásico.”
This move comes in the wake of the repercussions of Mbappé’s controversial statements regarding the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong, as the platform has blocked content related to the French star, in an escalation that reflects the extent of the anger his remarks have provoked in China.
Mbappé had previously mentioned in an interview that the best meme about him was the one where he appeared as the “Chinese dictator,” referring to Mao Zedong, which sparked widespread discontent, prompting the player, his club, and La Liga to issue apologies.
Migu has also excluded the Real Madrid vs. Racing Santander match, scheduled for Sunday, from its broadcast schedule, while its actions have extended to summaries of the team’s previous matches.
