The Consul General of the Republic of South Korea in Jeddah, Dai Hwan Kim, visited the Okaz Foundation for Press and Publishing, accompanied by the Deputy Consul and several staff members from the consulate. He met with the Editor-in-Chief of the “Okaz” newspaper and the General Supervisor of the “Saudi Gazette,” Jameel Al-Dhiyabi, and the General Director, Abdullah Al-Hassoun, in the presence of several leaders from the foundation.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance media cooperation, highlighting the historical relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of South Korea, the partnership that binds the two countries, and the role of media in promoting its development and enhancing communication between the two peoples.
The Consul General affirmed that the diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and South Korea, established in 1962, have deepened over their history, explaining that the cooperation that began in the construction and energy sectors has expanded to include information technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, defense, healthcare, space, and advanced technologies.
He stated that this partnership closely aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, supporting economic diversification, localizing industry, and technological innovation, citing two prominent projects that reflect the growing cooperation between the two countries. The first is the establishment of Hyundai Motor Company and the Public Investment Fund’s first factory for car production in the Middle East in King Abdullah Economic City. The second is the development of Saudi Aramco and its Korean partners’ “Shahin” project in Ulsan, which is expected to become the largest petrochemical facility in Korea.
He added that these projects embody a strategic Saudi-Korean partnership that contributes to translating the ambitions of Vision 2030 into tangible results.
The Consul General and the accompanying delegation toured the newspaper’s sections and the information center, where they reviewed its archive, which includes journalistic materials and photos documenting the milestones of Saudi-Korean relations and the most significant visits and events associated with them.
The delegation watched an audiovisual presentation that addressed the history of relations between the two countries and their development. They also visited a section dedicated to displaying historical photos and topics published by “Okaz” over the decades, reflecting its engagement with bilateral relations and documenting their milestones.
