في ظل انحسار دور وحضور المكتبات العامة، وتفكيك منظومة القراءة وإعادة تركيبها وفق معايير عصريّة؛ يلحظ المتابع أن مقاهي ثقافية وصالونات أدبية، تسلّمت راية خير جليس، وغدت مساحات تحتضن في رفوفها الكتب، وتوفر خدمة «واي فاي» لمن يريد أن يقرأ الكتب الإلكترونية، وتجمع المثقفين والكتّاب والمهتمين بالمعرفة، وتتيح فرصاً للحوار وتبادل الأفكار، في مشهد يعكس تحوّلات العلاقة بين الثقافة والمجتمع، وتنوع الأماكن التي تحتضن النشاط الثقافي.
ومع تسجيل الحاضنات الثقافية الأحدث حضورها، يبرز تساؤل حول قدرتها على توسيع المشاركة الثقافية، ومدى نجاحها في تحويل اللقاءات العابرة إلى ممارسة معرفية مستمرة؟ وهل أصبحت المقاهي والصوالين الأدبية تضطلع بدور المكتبات، أم أنها تقدّم تجربة ثقافية مختلفة لا يمكن أن تحل محل الكتاب والمكتبة؟ وهنا مساحة لاستطلاع آراء عدد من المعنيين والمهتمين بالشأن الثقافي؛ لوضع القارئ في الصورة؛ وتفسير أو تحليل ما يحدث.
العمري: من الأرفف إلى تجربة مُعاشة
ترى سفيرة النوايا الحسنة رئيسة عمر العمري أنه عندما تغادر الثقافة رفوف المكتبات إلى طاولات الحوار، تصبح المعرفة تجربة تُعاش، لا صفحات تُقرأ فحسب.
وعدّت المقاهي الثقافية والصالونات الأدبية امتداداً ثقافياً مكملاً لدور المكتبة، التي أصبحت فضاءات حيوية للحوار وتبادل الأفكار، ولقاء الكتّاب والمثقفين والفنانين، ومناقشة الكتب والقضايا الفكرية والاجتماعية.
وأشارت إلى أنه في الوقت الذي تمنح المكتبة القارئ مساحة هادئة للقراءة والبحث، فإن المقهى الثقافي يُضيف بُعداً تفاعلياً يجعل المعرفة تجربة جماعية، ويحوّل الصالون الأدبي القراءة من فعل فردي إلى حوار حيّ مثرٍ، مؤكدةً أن للمكتبة فضل حفظ المعرفة وإتاحة مصادرها، بينما خلقت المقاهي والصالونات مساحات للتفاعل والنقاش وإنتاج الأفكار، وجمعت بين فضاء القراءة والفن والإعلام والعمل الثقافي المجتمعي، وأعادت وهج اللقاءات الأدبية حضورها بأساليب معاصرة.
العنزي: امتداد حيّ وحيوي
من جهته، أوضح الكاتب دحام العنزي أنّ الصوالين الأدبية والمقاهي الثقافية ليست بدائل للمكتبات إلا أنها امتداد حي وحيوي لتلك المكتبات من حيث الروح، كونها تنتقل بالثقافة من سكون الرفوف إلى حيوية اللقاء والحوار، لافتاً إلى أن المكتبة تمنح المثقف والقارئ النهم عزلته الخلاقة والعمق المعرفي والصلة المتأنية لما بين دفتي الكتاب، بينما تلك الصوالين والمقاهي تمنح الأفكار فرصة الخروج إلى الضوء والتفاعل المباشر مع تجارب الآخرين وطرح الأسئلة، وتنبري لفتح نوافذ جديدة أمام الأجيال الشابة بحيث تغدو الثقافة ممارسة اجتماعية تتجاوز النخب إلى مجتمع أرحب، وعدّ الفضاءات الأحدث فرصة لإعادة تشكيل المشهد الثقافي السعودي، وإن كانت قيمة أي فضاء لا تقاس بعدد الحضور وكثافة المشاركات وتعدد الأمسيات بل بما تتركه من أثر ومبادرات ومشاريع معرفية مستدامة. وأضاف العنزي: أعتقد أن الرهان الحقيقي يكمن في تكامل الأدوار وليس المفاضلة بين المقهى والصالون والمكتبة.
العروي: اللقاء الناجح لا ينتهي بانصراف الحضور
لفت رئيس نادي ثقات الثقافي في المدينة المنورة الدكتور عبدالعزيز بن حضيري العروي إلى ما يشهده الفضاء الثقافي السعودي من تحوّلات نوعية؛ تتمثل في طبيعة اللقاءات الثقافية وأماكن انعقادها، إذ لم تعد الثقافة مرتبطة بالمكتبات والقاعات التقليدية وحدها، بل أصبحت المقاهي الثقافية والصوالين الأدبية والمجالس الحوارية فضاءات حيوية تجمع المثقفين والأدباء والمهتمين بالمعرفة، وأكد أن قيمة هذه المساحات لا تكمن في استضافة الأسماء الأدبية والفكرية البارزة فحسب، وإنما في قدرتها على تقريب المثقف من المجتمع، وفتح أبواب الحوار أمام الشباب والمهتمين بالثقافة، وإيجاد بيئة يشعر فيها الجميع بأنهم شركاء في صناعة المشهد الثقافي.
وأضاف العروي: من خلال تجربة نادي ثقات الثقافي بالمدينة المنورة، وعبر تنويع اللقاءات والأمسيات والمجالس الثقافية واستضافة شخصيات أدبية وفكرية وإعلامية، إلى جانب طرح قضايا تمس واقع المجتمع وتطلعات الأجيال الجديدة، يتأكد أن اللقاء الثقافي الناجح لا ينتهي بانصراف الحضور، بل يبدأ أثره الحقيقي حين تتحول الأفكار المطروحة إلى مبادرات وعلاقات ثقافية ومشاركات مستمرة، مؤكداً أن هذه الفضاءات لا يمكن أن تكون بديلاً عن المكتبات، التي تظل الوعاء الأصيل للمعرفة والبحث والقراءة المتعمقة، فيما تمنح الصوالين والمقاهي الثقافية تلك المعرفة بُعداً إنسانياً وتفاعلياً، مشدّداً على أن العلاقة بينهما ينبغي أن تقوم على التكامل لا التنافس.
وعدّ العروي التحدي الأكبر في الانتقال من تنظيم الفعاليات إلى صناعة التأثير، ومن استقطاب الحضور إلى بناء جمهور قارئ ومشارك، خصوصاً من فئة الشباب، مضيفاً أن المشهد الثقافي لا يُقاس بكثرة الأمسيات، وإنما بما تتركه من وعي، وما تفتحه من آفاق، وما تصنعه من أثر مستدام، مشيراً إلى أن مستقبل الثقافة السعودية يتطلب شراكة حقيقية بين المكتبات والأندية الثقافية والصوالين الأدبية والمقاهي، ليصبح الكتاب منطلقاً للحوار، والحوار دافعاً للقراءة، والقراءة أساساً لبناء مجتمع أكثر وعياً وإبداعاً.
العوفي: دور مساند لها لا بديلاً عنها
من جهته، أكد الشاعر عبدالرحمن بن مشعل العوفي أن الصوالين الثقافية والأدبية في المملكة تمثل امتداداً للمكتبات، لكنها لا تغني عنها، بل تؤدي دوراً مسانداً ومعاضداً، مشدّداً على ضرورة استمرار العناية بالمكتبات وتطويرها، وبذل الجهود والأموال بصورة منظمة لضمان دورها في الارتقاء بالمجتمع، لافتاً إلى أن المشهد الثقافي يشهد نشاطاً ملحوظاً في الصوالين الثقافية والأدبية، عبر تسهيل استخراج التصاريح لهذه الصوالين ما أسهم في بروز تجارب جديدة، واستقطاب جيل من الشباب إلى العمل الثقافي، مشيراً إلى أن الصوالين الثقافية والأدبية استطاعت جذب شرائح عريضة من المجتمع، من الصغار والكبار ومختلف الثقافات والأفكار، موضحاً أن طبيعة المكان تؤدي دوراً في الاستقطاب، إلى جانب أهمية الإعلام في التعريف بالأنشطة والفعاليات.
وعدّ الفعاليات والأنشطة والدورات التي تقيمها هذه الصوالين لها أثر فاعل في المجتمع، لكنها تحتاج إلى مزيد من العناية والدعم لتعظيم أثرها، مضيفاً بأن التحفيز يمثل أحد الأسس المهمة في جذب الجمهور واستقطابه.
In light of the diminishing role and presence of public libraries, and the dismantling and reassembling of the reading system according to modern standards; observers note that cultural cafés and literary salons have taken up the banner of good companionship, becoming spaces that host books on their shelves, provide Wi-Fi services for those who wish to read e-books, gather intellectuals, writers, and knowledge enthusiasts, and offer opportunities for dialogue and the exchange of ideas. This scene reflects the transformations in the relationship between culture and society, and the diversity of places that host cultural activities.
With the emergence of the latest cultural incubators, a question arises about their ability to expand cultural participation and their success in transforming fleeting encounters into continuous knowledge practices. Have cafés and literary salons taken on the role of libraries, or do they offer a different cultural experience that cannot replace the book and the library? Here is a space to explore the opinions of several stakeholders and those interested in cultural affairs; to put the reader in the picture; and to interpret or analyze what is happening.
Al-Omari: From Shelves to Lived Experience
The goodwill ambassador and head of the Omar Al-Omari Foundation believes that when culture leaves the shelves of libraries and moves to the tables of dialogue, knowledge becomes a lived experience, not just pages to be read.
Cultural cafés and literary salons are seen as a complementary cultural extension to the role of the library, which has become a vibrant space for dialogue and the exchange of ideas, a meeting place for writers, intellectuals, and artists, and a venue for discussing books and intellectual and social issues.
She pointed out that while the library provides the reader with a quiet space for reading and research, the cultural café adds an interactive dimension that makes knowledge a collective experience, transforming the literary salon from an individual act into a lively enriching dialogue. She emphasized that the library plays a crucial role in preserving knowledge and providing its sources, while cafés and salons have created spaces for interaction, discussion, and the production of ideas, merging the realms of reading, art, media, and community cultural work, and reviving the glow of literary gatherings with contemporary methods.
Al-Anzi: A Vibrant and Living Extension
For his part, writer Dham Al-Anzi clarified that literary salons and cultural cafés are not alternatives to libraries; rather, they are a vibrant and living extension of those libraries in spirit, as they transition culture from the stillness of shelves to the vitality of meetings and dialogue. He noted that the library provides the intellectual and avid reader with a creative isolation, deep knowledge, and a thoughtful connection to the pages of the book, while those salons and cafés give ideas the opportunity to come to light and interact directly with the experiences of others and pose questions. They open new windows for young generations, making culture a social practice that transcends the elite to a broader community. He considered the latest spaces an opportunity to reshape the Saudi cultural scene, emphasizing that the value of any space is not measured by the number of attendees or the density of participation and the variety of evenings, but by the impact, initiatives, and sustainable knowledge projects it leaves behind. Al-Anzi added: I believe that the real bet lies in the integration of roles, not in favoring cafés over salons or libraries.
Al-Arawi: A Successful Meeting Does Not End with the Departure of Attendees
Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hadhiri Al-Arawi, president of the Thaqat Cultural Club in Medina, pointed out the qualitative transformations occurring in the Saudi cultural space; reflected in the nature of cultural meetings and their venues, as culture is no longer solely associated with libraries and traditional halls, but rather cultural cafés, literary salons, and dialogue councils have become vibrant spaces that gather intellectuals, writers, and knowledge enthusiasts. He affirmed that the value of these spaces lies not only in hosting prominent literary and intellectual figures but also in their ability to bring the intellectual closer to society, open doors for dialogue for youth and culture enthusiasts, and create an environment where everyone feels they are partners in shaping the cultural scene.
Al-Arawi added: Through the experience of the Thaqat Cultural Club in Medina, and by diversifying meetings, evenings, and cultural councils, and hosting literary, intellectual, and media figures, alongside addressing issues that touch on the reality of society and the aspirations of new generations, it is confirmed that a successful cultural meeting does not end with the departure of attendees, but its true impact begins when the ideas presented turn into initiatives, cultural relationships, and ongoing participation. He emphasized that these spaces cannot replace libraries, which remain the original vessel for knowledge, research, and in-depth reading, while salons and cultural cafés provide that knowledge with a human and interactive dimension, stressing that the relationship between them should be based on integration, not competition.
Al-Arawi considered the biggest challenge to be the transition from organizing events to creating impact, from attracting attendees to building a reading and participating audience, especially among the youth, adding that the cultural scene is not measured by the number of evenings, but by the awareness it leaves behind, the horizons it opens, and the lasting impact it creates. He pointed out that the future of Saudi culture requires a genuine partnership between libraries, cultural clubs, literary salons, and cafés, so that the book becomes a starting point for dialogue, dialogue a motivation for reading, and reading a foundation for building a more aware and creative society.
Al-Oufi: A Supporting Role, Not a Replacement
For his part, poet Abdulrahman bin Mishal Al-Oufi confirmed that cultural and literary salons in the Kingdom represent an extension of libraries, but they do not replace them; rather, they play a supporting and complementary role. He emphasized the necessity of continuing to care for and develop libraries, and making organized efforts and investments to ensure their role in elevating society. He pointed out that the cultural scene is witnessing noticeable activity in cultural and literary salons, through facilitating the issuance of permits for these salons, which has contributed to the emergence of new experiences and attracting a generation of youth to cultural work. He noted that cultural and literary salons have succeeded in attracting broad segments of society, from children and adults to various cultures and ideas, explaining that the nature of the place plays a role in attraction, alongside the importance of media in promoting activities and events.
He considered the events, activities, and courses organized by these salons to have a significant impact on society, but they need more care and support to maximize their effect, adding that motivation is one of the essential foundations in attracting and engaging the audience.
