“The road conditions may change within minutes due to rainfall and water accumulation; everyone should avoid crossing water-affected roads and adhere to the directives of the relevant authorities.”
This warning was issued by the Jeddah Municipality hours before the rainfall today (Saturday) as a precautionary measure aimed at protecting pedestrians and road users from unexpected rain, coinciding with alerts from the National Center of Meteorology regarding expectations of moderate to heavy rainfall in Jeddah.
The municipality issued a set of guidelines to address the anticipated impacts of the upcoming rains in the following days after the rains on Saturday passed without significant or obstructive effects on the quality of life. The first guideline is: safe driving with caution, reducing speed, and maintaining a sufficient safety distance between vehicles to avoid skidding.
It is advised to avoid water hazards and stay away from areas of water accumulation, to choose alternative routes, and to completely avoid flood channels and valleys, as well as not approaching low-lying areas during rainfall.
Other guidelines include staying away from electrical sources, streetlight poles, and electrical cabinets, protecting children by not allowing them to play in water accumulations, and facilitating the work of field teams by allowing access for equipment used in water extraction.
Among the important advice is to follow notifications issued by official entities such as the General Directorate of Civil Defense and report water accumulations via the unified emergency reporting phone line. The 8 guidelines issued by the Jeddah Municipality were preceded by preparations to face the rainy conditions with 7,139 personnel to implement emergency plans and monitor locations, along with 1,318 vehicles and equipment including water suction tankers and drainage and maintenance equipment, in addition to 15 centers to support rapid deployment and direct response across 11 sub-municipalities covering the entire Jeddah Governorate.
