When disputes ignite between spouses, matters often take legal paths or familiar family routes, but what transpired in the courts of Dubai exceeded all expectations, transforming a purely family dispute into one of the strangest and most shocking theft cases, after the husband found himself facing legal action alongside his son, accused of robbing his wife’s property valued at millions of dirhams.
The spark of the problem did not ignite in the street, but within the marital home, where the wife kept valuable jewelry exceeding more than 100 luxurious pieces of gold and diamonds, in addition to expensive watches and large sums of money. However, the security that the wife assumed in those she loved suddenly dissipated, as she discovered the disappearance of property valued at approximately 15.1 million dirhams, and the shocking surprise was not only in the size of the stolen items but also in the fingers of accusation that pointed directly at her life partner and son.
The matter quickly escalated from family backrooms to the criminal courts, where a fierce legal battle ensued that proved the husband and son’s involvement in committing the crime. Attempts to deny involvement were unsuccessful, as the Court of Appeals issued final rulings convicting them to one year in prison and ordering them to jointly compensate the full value of the stolen money, based on conclusive evidence that left no room for doubt.
However, the chapters of the story did not end there, as the wife, shocked by the betrayal before the theft, did not settle for the criminal ruling but resorted to the civil court demanding astronomical compensation amounting to 50 million dirhams, arguing that her deprivation of her property coincided with a crazy surge in gold prices, in addition to the severe psychological damages she suffered from people she expected protection from, not betrayal.
Yet, the civil court, in a ruling based on the established elements of tort liability and the authority of criminal judgments, obligated the husband and son to repay the amount of 15.1 million dirhams in full. It also estimated an additional compensation of one million dirhams for the moral and material damages, as well as the distress the wife endured from litigation and feelings of oppression, bringing the total legal bill to 16.1 million dirhams, drawing the curtain on a tragic chapter of marital disputes that turned into an unforgettable crime.
