أثارت صفقة مالية ضخمة أبرمتها محامية الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب السابقة، ألينا حبة ميلدون، غضب الرئيس، بعدما حققت من خلالها عائدات تقدر بنحو 50 مليون دولار، وسط تقارير تفيد بأنه يرغب في تخصيص جزء من هذه الأموال لمكتبته الرئاسية المستقبلية أو لجهة أخرى مرتبطة به.
وتكشف الواقعة، وفقاً لتقرير نشرته صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز»، عن نهج مثير للجدل في علاقة ترمب بالمقربين منه، إذ يبدو أنه لا يكتفي بالاستفادة من عائدات الصفقات التي يبرمها بنفسه، بل يتوقع أيضاً أن يحصل على نصيب من المكاسب التي يحققها المحيطون به بفضل قربهم من دوائر نفوذه.
ووفقاً للتقرير، وقّعت ميلدون العام الماضي عقداً بقيمة 50 مليون دولار للعمل مستشارة قانونية عامة لعائلة فنزويلية شديدة الثراء، بعدما شغلت سابقاً منصب المحامية الشخصية لترمب، كما تولت لفترة وجيزة منصب المدعي العام الأمريكي في ولاية نيوجيرسي.
ونقلت الصحيفة عن أشخاص مطلعين على مناقشات جرت في هذا الشأن أن ترمب أبلغ مساعديه وحلفاءه بأن ميلدون ينبغي أن تتبرع بجزء من أموال الصفقة لمكتبته الرئاسية المستقبلية أو لأي كيان آخر مرتبط به.
ولم يتضح ما إذا كان ترمب قد طلب منها التبرع بصورة مباشرةً، أم أنه اكتفى بطرح الفكرة على مقربين منه، لكن التقرير أشار إلى أن الرئيس بدا راغباً في تكرار أسلوب التبرعات الذي استخدمه أخيراً مع اثنين من مساعديه السابقين.
ترمب يغضب من مكاسب المقربين منه
ولا تعد هذه الواقعة الأولى التي يظهر فيها استياء ترمب من الأموال التي يحققها أشخاص من خلال ارتباطهم به أو عملهم ضمن دائرته السياسية.
ففي عام 2016، عمل براد بارسكيل استراتيجياً رقمياً لحملة ترمب، ثم تولى إدارة حملته الانتخابية عام 2020، وحقق ملايين الدولارات من خلال عقود أبرمتها شركة الاستشارات التابعة له مع مجموعات مرتبطة بالرئيس.
وبحسب ما أوردته تقارير، أبدى ترمب غضبه بعدما علم بنمط الحياة الباذخ الذي كان يعيشه بارسكيل، وقال في إشارة إلى الأموال التي حققها: «هذه أموالي!».
وفي يوليو 2020، جرى تخفيض منصب بارسكيل داخل الحملة الانتخابية، قبل أن يترك عمله بالكامل قبل موعد الانتخابات الرئاسية.
وتجدد الجدل خلال أكتوبر الجاري، بعدما تعرض كريس لا سيفيتا، المدير المشارك لحملة ترمب الانتخابية عام 2024، والمستشار جيمس بلير، لانتقادات بسبب عملهما السياسي في جمهورية صربسكا، وهي منطقة تقع في منطقة البلقان ضمن البوسنة والهرسك، وتحكمها قيادة قومية ذات توجهات موالية لروسيا.
وأثار عمل الرجلين في المنطقة، بعيداً عن مهامهما السياسية داخل الولايات المتحدة، انتقادات بسبب تزامنه مع الاستعدادات لانتخابات التجديد النصفي الأمريكية، فضلاً عن تقارير أفادت بأن كلاً منهما حصل على مئات الآلاف من الدولارات مقابل خدماته الاستشارية.
كما أشارت التقارير إلى أن ابنة سوزي وايلز، كبيرة موظفي البيت الأبيض، عملت هي الأخرى بموجب عقد مع الكيان الصربي داخل البوسنة والهرسك، وهو ما قيل إن خصوم وايلز استغلوه لتذكير ترمب به في محاولة لكسب رضاه.
تبرعات لمكتبة ترمب مقابل استعادة رضاه
وهدد ترمب بقطع علاقته مع لا سيفيتا وبلير، لكنه سمح لهما بالعودة إلى دائرة المقربين منه بعد أن تبرعا بالأموال التي حصلا عليها من عملهما الاستشاري في جمهورية صربسكا لمصلحة مكتبته الرئاسية المستقبلية.
ووصف ترمب ما حدث بأنه عمل من أعمال «الإحسان» أو التبرع، وفق تصريحات نقلتها عنه وسائل إعلام الأسبوع الماضي، فيما نشر الرجلان رسائل عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي عبّرا فيها عن سعادتهما بالتبرع بالأموال.
ويرى التقرير أن هذه التبرعات شبه الطوعية تعكس تحولاً في طبيعة العلاقة بين ترمب والمقربين منه؛ فبعدما اعتاد رجال أعمال وشخصيات تسعى إلى النفوذ ضخ الأموال في عضويات نادي «مارالاغو» أو حجز لقاءات في ممتلكاته، يبدو أن مجرد تجنب غضبه بات دافعاً كافياً لتقديم التبرعات.
وعلى مدى سنوات، استخدم أشخاص وشركات آليات مختلفة للوصول إلى ترمب أو تعزيز علاقاتهم به، من بينها دفع أموال مقابل العضوية في ناديه الخاص، أو تنظيم لقاءات داخل منشآته، بما يحقق له عائدات مالية ويوفر للمتبرعين فرصة الاقتراب من دوائر السلطة.
كما حقق ترمب خلال ولايته الحالية، وفق التقرير، جزءاً كبيراً من مكاسبه عبر صفقات مرتبطة بالعملات المشفرة، وسبق أن عرض على مشترين لهذه العملات فرصة الفوز بعشاء معه.
تبرعات بـ330 مليون دولار لمشروع قاعة البيت الأبيض
ولم تقتصر التبرعات المرتبطة بترمب على مكتبته الرئاسية، إذ كشفت صحيفة «واشنطن بوست» في وقت سابق من أكتوبر عن الجهات التي ساهمت في توفير نحو 330 مليون دولار لتمويل مشروع إنشاء قاعة احتفالات داخل البيت الأبيض.
وكانت قائمة المتبرعين محاطة بسرية كبيرة، بموجب بنود تعاقدية تضمن عدم الكشف عن هوية الجهات التي فضلت تقديم أموالها بصورة غير معلنة.
وأوضحت الصحيفة أن تحقيقها لم يثبت وجود صلة مباشرة بين التعهدات المالية التي قدمها المتبرعون والقرارات أو الإجراءات التي اتخذتها إدارة ترمب لمصلحتهم، لكنه أظهر أن الغالبية العظمى من الأموال جاءت من شركات وأثرياء لديهم مصالح أو ملفات مطروحة أمام الحكومة الفيدرالية الأمريكية.
وفي المقابل، يثير ملف مكتبة ترمب الرئاسية تساؤلات بشأن مصير التبرعات التي جرى التعهد بها سابقاً. فبحسب التقرير، لم تتضح حتى الآن وجهة ملايين الدولارات التي تعهد متبرعون بتقديمها للمكتبة، بعدما جرى حل الصندوق الأول الذي كان مخصصاً لجمع الأموال.
وأعلنت مؤسسة غير ربحية ثانية، تأسست في ديسمبر الماضي، أنها جمعت 50 مليون دولار لصالح المكتبة، وهو مبلغ يقل عن نحو 63 مليون دولار سبق التعهد بها. وشملت التبرعات السابقة أموالاً من مؤسسات إعلامية وشركات تواصل اجتماعي وافقت على دفع مبالغ مالية لتسوية دعاوى قضائية رفعها ترمب بصفته الشخصية.
نفوذ ترمب يتحول إلى مصدر للمكاسب المالية
ويشير التقرير إلى أن اللافت في واقعة ميلدون ليس فقط ضخامة الصفقة التي حصلت عليها، بل دخول رئيس أمريكي في منصبه على خط المطالبة بتخصيص جزء من مكاسب محامية سابقة لمؤسسة مرتبطة باسمه.
A massive financial deal struck by former U.S. President Donald Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba Mildon, has sparked the president’s anger after she reportedly generated around $50 million from it, amid reports that he wishes to allocate part of this money to his future presidential library or to another entity connected to him.
This incident reveals, according to a report published by the New York Times, a controversial approach in Trump’s relationship with those close to him, as it seems he is not only satisfied with benefiting from the revenues of deals he makes himself, but also expects to receive a share of the profits generated by those around him due to their proximity to his circles of influence.
According to the report, Mildon signed a $50 million contract last year to work as general legal counsel for a very wealthy Venezuelan family, after previously serving as Trump’s personal attorney and briefly holding the position of U.S. Attorney in New Jersey.
The newspaper quoted sources familiar with discussions on the matter as saying that Trump informed his aides and allies that Mildon should donate part of the deal’s money to his future presidential library or to any other entity connected to him.
It was unclear whether Trump directly asked her to donate, or if he merely floated the idea to those close to him, but the report indicated that the president seemed eager to repeat the donation approach he recently used with two of his former aides.
Trump Angered by Profits of Those Close to Him
This is not the first incident where Trump’s displeasure with the money earned by individuals through their association with him or their work within his political circle is evident.
In 2016, Brad Parscale worked as a digital strategist for Trump’s campaign, then took over the management of his 2020 election campaign, earning millions of dollars through contracts his consulting firm secured with groups linked to the president.
According to reports, Trump expressed his anger after learning about the lavish lifestyle Parscale was living, saying in reference to the money he earned, “That’s my money!”.
In July 2020, Parscale’s position within the campaign was downgraded before he left his job entirely ahead of the presidential election.
The controversy resurfaced this October after Chris LaCivita, co-director of Trump’s 2024 election campaign, and advisor James Blair faced criticism for their political work in the Republika Srpska, a region located in the Balkans within Bosnia and Herzegovina, governed by a nationalist leadership with pro-Russian tendencies.
Their work in the region, away from their political duties within the United States, drew criticism due to its timing with the preparations for the American midterm elections, as well as reports indicating that each received hundreds of thousands of dollars for their consulting services.
Reports also indicated that the daughter of Suzy Wiles, the White House Chief of Staff, also worked under a contract with the Serbian entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina, which Wiles’ opponents reportedly used to remind Trump of in an attempt to win his favor.
Donations to Trump’s Library in Exchange for Regaining His Favor
Trump threatened to cut ties with LaCivita and Blair, but allowed them to return to his inner circle after they donated the money they received from their consulting work in Republika Srpska to his future presidential library.
Trump described what happened as an act of “charity” or donation, according to statements reported by media last week, while the two men posted messages on social media expressing their happiness at donating the funds.
The report suggests that these quasi-voluntary donations reflect a shift in the nature of the relationship between Trump and those close to him; as businessmen and influential figures have traditionally poured money into memberships at Mar-a-Lago or booked meetings at his properties, it now seems that merely avoiding his anger has become a sufficient motivation for making donations.
Over the years, individuals and companies have used various mechanisms to reach Trump or enhance their relationships with him, including paying money for membership in his private club or organizing meetings at his facilities, which generates financial returns for him and provides donors with an opportunity to get closer to circles of power.
According to the report, Trump has also earned a significant portion of his profits during his current term through deals related to cryptocurrencies, having previously offered buyers of these currencies the chance to win a dinner with him.
$330 Million in Donations for the White House Hall Project
Donations linked to Trump have not been limited to his presidential library, as the Washington Post revealed earlier this October the entities that contributed to providing around $330 million to fund the construction of a celebration hall within the White House.
The list of donors was surrounded by significant secrecy, under contractual terms ensuring the identities of those who preferred to provide their funds anonymously were not disclosed.
The newspaper clarified that its investigation did not establish a direct link between the financial commitments made by donors and the decisions or actions taken by the Trump administration for their benefit, but it showed that the vast majority of the funds came from companies and wealthy individuals with interests or files pending before the U.S. federal government.
In contrast, the issue of Trump’s presidential library raises questions about the fate of donations that were previously pledged. According to the report, the destination of millions of dollars that donors pledged to provide for the library remains unclear, after the first fund designated for raising money was dissolved.
A second nonprofit organization, established last December, announced that it had raised $50 million for the library, which is less than the approximately $63 million previously pledged. The earlier donations included funds from media organizations and social media companies that agreed to pay amounts to settle lawsuits filed by Trump in his personal capacity.
Trump’s Influence Becomes a Source of Financial Gains
The report notes that what is striking about Mildon’s case is not only the size of the deal she secured but also the involvement of a sitting U.S. president in demanding a portion of the profits of a former attorney for an entity linked to his name.
