Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer suffered a partial tear in one of the ligaments of his right foot, which will keep him off the pitch for the upcoming period, according to the club’s announcement on Sunday, while media reports estimated his absence to be around two months.
Neuer had to leave his team’s match against Mainz just minutes before the end of the first half due to the injury, in a game that ended with Bayern Munich winning 2-1 on Saturday in the German league.
The club clarified that the veteran goalkeeper will be absent from participating with the team “for the time being,” without specifying an official duration for his absence, while media reports indicated that his expected absence could last up to two months.
Substitute goalkeeper Jonas Oerbig replaced Neuer, continuing his repeated presence in goal for the team this season, as both have played five matches in the German league, counting Oerbig’s appearance as a substitute in the match against Mainz.
Despite leaving the match injured, Neuer entered the club’s record books, becoming the oldest player to participate in Bayern Munich’s history in the German league at the age of 40 years and 225 days, according to specialized statistics from “Opta.”
