الآن، وبعد انتهاء موسم مهرجان البحر الأحمر السينمائي، الذي يذهب ويأتي بنفس السياق والأخطاء، هل يحق محاسبته على ما مضى؟ يحق لنا بأثر رجعي، فقد فرحنا كثيراً بمهرجان البحر الأحمر، إلا أنه خيّب فرحتنا، وفي كل دورة نقول سوف يعالج زلاته المتكررة، إلا أنه أمعن في تعميق تلك الزلّات، فمن من المسؤولين يمكن له إيقاظ تلك الغفلة؟ كنت أظن أني الوحيد الذي يقف معارضاً لما يحدث في المهرجان، لكن وجدت الكثيرين يحملون الآراء المحتجة للمهرجان، والكثيرين أيضاً يُعرضون عن إبداء آرائهم فيما يحدث.
ولأن قاعدة من ينتقدني هو ضدي، كف المتابعون والمنشغلون في عالم السينما عن انتقاد مهرجان البحر الأحمر.
هذه ليست مقالتي، وإنما آراء (مخرجة سعودية) وجدت عنتاً لما يحدث في المهرجان، وسوف أبدأ بآرائها، فقد رأت أن السلوكيات الماضية فضحت إدارة المهرجان، وسوف أعرضها كرأي واحد (من آراء كثيرة سوف أتابع نشرها لاحقاً).
«في مهرجان البحر الأحمر تكررت حالات إقصاء الأفلام السعودية خلال دوراته، رغم إسهام صنّاعها الفعلي في النهضة الفنية التي تشهدها المملكة. كما يتكرر رفض الأعمال في مراحل مختلفة دون معايير واضحة أو نقد فني مهني يمكن البناء عليه. هذا التكرار لا يمكن فهمه كحالات فردية، بل كنمط يعكس خللاً بنيوياً في طريقة التعامل مع الفنان السعودي المستقل، خصوصاً حين لا يكون قابلاً للاستخدام الدعائي أو التوظيف الرمزي.
الإشكال لا يكمن في المنافسة أو الاختلاف الفني، بل في منظومة تُكافئ الاستعراض على حساب التجربة، وتستثمر في النجومية المستوردة بدل الاستثمار في بناء مسار مستدام لصنّاع السينما السعوديين. تُصرف ميزانيات ضخمة على الواجهة، بينما يُهمَّش الفنان السعودي الذي راكم خبرته عبر سنوات طويلة من العمل الجاد، أو يُستدعى كحضور شكلي لا كصاحب مشروع ورؤية.
ويزداد هذا الخلل وضوحاً في مهرجان البحر الأحمر، مع سيطرة عقلية شللية على بعض مفاصله؛ حيث تتكرر الأسماء ذاتها في الترشيحات، والجوائز، واللجان، والورش، في دورة مغلقة تُعيد إنتاج نفسها عاماً بعد عام. المشكلة تكمن في هذه الشللية، وفي تهميش كل من هو خارج هذه الدائرة، خصوصاً من لا يملك شبكة علاقات نافذة، بغضّ النظر عن كفاءته أو تاريخه المهني. هذا النمط ليس سراً، بل ملاحظة شائعة بين العاملين في الحقل السينمائي، ويؤدي إلى إقصاء التنوع الحقيقي، ويُضعف مبدأ تكافؤ الفرص، ويحوّل المنصّة من مساحة اكتشاف إلى دائرة مغلقة.
ويتجلّى هذا الخلل أيضاً في ممارسات تنظيمية داخل المهرجان تخلق تصنيفاً طبقياً داخل الفعاليات نفسها؛ حيث تُقسَّم الدعوات إلى فئات متعددة من بطاقات الـVIP والمساحات المغلقة، بما يضع الفنان السعودي في مواقف مُحرِجة إذا لم يحمل (البطاقة الصحيحة)، وكأن حضوره يحتاج إلى إذن إضافي داخل فضاء يُفترض أنه مخصص له.
والأكثر إشكالية أن هذا التقسيم يكرّس مسافة مصطنعة بين الفنان السعودي وبين (المشاهير) الذين صُرفت عليهم ميزانيات ضخمة، فيُمنع الاختلاط الطبيعي، ويُرسَّخ شعور بأن المبدع السعودي عنصر ثانوي داخل حدث يُقام على أرضه وباسمه. هذه ليست مسألة تنظيم، بل مسألة كرامة ثقافية.
الأكثر إيلاماً هو أن الفنان السعودي لا يُكرَّم بوصفه ابن هذه الأرض، ولا يُحتضن بوصفه حاملاً لذاكرة وثقافة وتجربة معاصرة، بل كثيراً ما يُقابَل بالشك، أو يُختزل في هويته، لا في منجزه.
أنا لا أطلب استثناءً، ولا أبحث عن مجاملة. ما أطالب به هو عدالة مهنية حقيقية: معايير واضحة، شفافية في الاختيار، وإعطاء الفرص العادلة بين المبدعين، واحترام للتجربة المتراكمة. فالعالمية لا تتناقض مع الهوية الوطنية، بل تنطلق منها. وأنا مخرجة عالمية من بلدي السعودية، لا ضيفة عابرة ولا واجهة مؤقتة.
السينما لا تُبنى بالسجاد الأحمر، ولا بالصور السريعة، بل بالثقة، والاستمرارية، والاعتراف الحقيقي بالفنان السعودي بوصفه شريكاً في صناعة الثقافة، لا أداة تكميلية لها. وأي مهرجان لا يضع الفنان في مركزه، سيبقى حدثاً عابراً، لا ذاكرة». (انتهى كلام المخرجة)، وما زالت هناك أقوال أخرى تُظهر قصور مهرجان البحر الأحمر عن أداء دوره السينمائي الفعلي.
انتهى رأي (المخرجة السعودية) وما زال هناك سؤال يحوم في أفق السينما السعودية:
- من يستطع إيقاف ما يحدث في ذلك المهرجان الذي فرحنا به داعماً للسينما السعودية فإذا به يغلق الباب عن الباحثين عن نهضة الأفلام السعودية، من؟
وبعد هذا السؤال تكون الأمنية متجددة باستعادة هذا المهرجان بعد تغير الإدارة السابقة.. فقط أمنية!
Now, after the end of the Red Sea International Film Festival, which goes and comes with the same context and mistakes, is it fair to hold it accountable for what has passed? We have the right to do so retroactively, as we were very happy with the Red Sea Festival, but it disappointed us. In every edition, we say it will address its recurring slips, yet it has deepened those slips. Who among the officials can awaken that negligence? I thought I was the only one opposing what is happening at the festival, but I found many others holding dissenting opinions about the festival, and many also refraining from expressing their views on what is happening.
And because the rule is that those who criticize me are against me, the followers and those preoccupied with the world of cinema have stopped criticizing the Red Sea Festival.
This is not my article, but rather the opinions of a (Saudi director) who found it difficult to accept what is happening at the festival. I will start with her opinions, as she believes that past behaviors have exposed the festival’s management, and I will present them as one opinion (among many that I will continue to publish later).
“At the Red Sea Festival, there have been repeated cases of exclusion of Saudi films throughout its editions, despite the actual contributions of their creators to the artistic renaissance taking place in the Kingdom. The rejection of works also recurs at different stages without clear criteria or professional artistic criticism that can be built upon. This repetition cannot be understood as individual cases, but rather as a pattern that reflects a structural malfunction in the way the independent Saudi artist is dealt with, especially when they are not usable for promotional purposes or symbolic employment.
The issue does not lie in competition or artistic differences, but in a system that rewards showmanship at the expense of experience, and invests in imported stardom instead of investing in building a sustainable path for Saudi filmmakers. Huge budgets are spent on the façade, while the Saudi artist, who has accumulated experience over many years of hard work, is marginalized or summoned as a mere formal presence rather than as a project owner with a vision.
This malfunction becomes even clearer at the Red Sea Festival, with a clique mentality dominating some of its components; the same names keep appearing in nominations, awards, committees, and workshops, in a closed cycle that reproduces itself year after year. The problem lies in this clique mentality and in marginalizing everyone who is outside this circle, especially those who do not have an influential network of connections, regardless of their competence or professional history. This pattern is not a secret; it is a common observation among those working in the cinematic field, and it leads to the exclusion of real diversity, weakens the principle of equal opportunities, and transforms the platform from a space for discovery into a closed circle.
This malfunction is also manifested in organizational practices within the festival that create a class distinction within the events themselves; invitations are divided into multiple categories of VIP cards and closed spaces, which puts the Saudi artist in embarrassing situations if they do not carry the (correct card), as if their presence requires additional permission within a space that is supposed to be designated for them.
What is even more problematic is that this division entrenches an artificial distance between the Saudi artist and (celebrities) who have been allocated huge budgets, preventing natural mingling and reinforcing the feeling that the Saudi creator is a secondary element within an event that takes place on their land and in their name. This is not a matter of organization, but a matter of cultural dignity.
What is most painful is that the Saudi artist is not honored as a son of this land, nor embraced as a bearer of memory, culture, and contemporary experience, but is often met with skepticism or reduced to their identity, not their achievements.
I do not ask for an exception, nor do I seek flattery. What I demand is true professional justice: clear criteria, transparency in selection, and fair opportunities among creators, along with respect for accumulated experience. Globalization does not contradict national identity; rather, it stems from it. I am a global director from my country, Saudi Arabia, not a passing guest or a temporary façade.
Cinema is not built with red carpets, nor with quick photos, but with trust, continuity, and true recognition of the Saudi artist as a partner in the culture-making process, not a complementary tool for it. Any festival that does not place the artist at its center will remain a fleeting event, without memory.” (End of the director’s words), and there are still other statements that show the shortcomings of the Red Sea Festival in fulfilling its actual cinematic role.
The opinion of the (Saudi director) has ended, and there is still a question hovering in the horizon of Saudi cinema:
– Who can stop what is happening at that festival that we were happy with as a supporter of Saudi cinema, only to find it closing the door on those seeking the renaissance of Saudi films, who?
And after this question, the wish is renewed to restore this festival after the change of the previous administration… just a wish!
