The Kingdom of Denmark has expressed its strong condemnation of the Houthi attacks on the Kingdom, including assaults targeting civilian infrastructure and threatening commercial navigation, emphasizing that this escalation exacerbates the humanitarian situation and undermines peace efforts in Yemen.
During a speech at the United Nations, Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen expressed her country’s concern over the intensity of clashes across multiple combat fronts, holding the Houthis fully responsible for the ongoing escalation and calling for an immediate halt to all attacks. She noted that ongoing Iranian support for the Houthis enables them to continue their operations, contributing to the exacerbation of the crisis and further destabilizing the region, stressing the need for effective efforts to contain the group’s destructive capabilities.
Denmark emphasized the importance of reducing illegal arms transfers and military support to the Houthis, expressing its hope for the renewal of sanctions next month and their more effective implementation. It added that the Houthis’ practices have disrupted the United Nations’ ability to provide humanitarian assistance in large areas of Yemen, reaffirming the necessity of adhering to international law and international humanitarian law.
The ambassador considered that the comprehensive political path under the auspices of the United Nations is the only sustainable solution to the crisis, calling on the Houthis to cease attacks and engage constructively in the political process, alleviating the humanitarian suffering experienced by the Yemeni people for many years.
