The Mexican Julian Quinones, Al-Qadisiyah’s striker, made a remarkable presence at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, ranking 28th in the world among the top 30 players, based on an exceptional scoring season with his team and a standout international performance with the Mexican national team in the World Cup.
Quinones established himself among the season’s top stars, leading the scoring chart in the Roshen Saudi League for the 2025-2026 season with 33 goals in 31 matches, ahead of Englishman Ivan Toney, Al-Ahli’s striker, who scored 32 goals, while Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo came in third with 28 goals.
Quinones’ brilliance did not stop at the local competitions; it extended to the biggest global football event, as he etched his name in the records of the 2026 World Cup by scoring the first goal of the tournament during the match between Mexico and South Africa in the opening game, finding the net in the ninth minute, giving his country the lead at the start of their World Cup journey.
Quinones continued his scoring presence throughout the tournament, netting four goals, making him one of the key attacking players in the Mexican national team, and enhancing his international tally in a year that saw him shine with Al-Qadisiyah and make his mark on the global stage.
How did he reach the 28th position?
Quinones’ rise to the 28th position resulted from the evaluation of the voting committee for the Ballon d’Or, which relies on individual performance and decisive moments, collective achievements, and sportsmanship. Voting journalists award points to the ten players they choose from the final list in descending order, and the final ranking is determined based on the total points.
Quinones’ scoring figures in the Roshen League, along with scoring the opening goal of the World Cup and finishing the tournament with four goals, are among the key highlights that bolstered his profile in the competition for the award. However, it cannot be definitively stated how much each achievement impacted his ranking separately without reviewing the details of the votes and points he received.
This achievement gives Al-Qadisiyah a presence in the list of the top 30 players in the world, reflecting his ability to attract attention with his scoring records both locally and internationally, as he combined the title of top scorer in the Roshen League with a stellar performance in the World Cup, concluding his season with a high ranking in one of the most prestigious individual awards in global football.
