أكد وزير الدفاع الإسرائيلي يسرائيل كاتس، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، أن الجيش الإسرائيلي يدرس تنفيذ عمليات إضافية في لبنان، مبيناً أن عملياته مستمرة في الجنوب اللبناني وفي كل الظروف.
وقال كاتس: واشنطن صدّقت على مبدئنا بأن استمرار الهجمات على الشمال سيقابل بهجوم على الضاحية وأبلغت به حكومة لبنان، مضيفاً: سيتضح في الأيام القادمة ما إذا كان القصف على الشمال سيتوقف أو سيستمر فنبدأ بمهاجمة الضاحية.
وأشار إلى أن الهدف طويل المدى هو نزع سلاح حزب الله، والهدف القريب هو تفكيك السلاح من الليطاني وسط سيطرة إسرائيلية.
في غضون ذلك، قالت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» الأمريكية إن الحملة الإسرائيلية في لبنان التي بدأت بآمال كبيرة تحولت إلى نوع من المأزق، مبينة أن الإستراتيجية الإسرائيلية كانت تتمثل في الاستيلاء على أراضٍ في لبنان كمنطقة عازلة، ودفع حزب الله إلى ما وراء مدى صواريخه المضادة للدبابات التي لطالما أرهقت عشرات الآلاف من المدنيين في شمال إسرائيل.
وأفادت الصحيفة بأن إسرائيل لم تكن مستعدة لاستخدام حزب الله الواسع النطاق للطائرات المسيّرة المتفجرة ذات الرؤية المباشرة والتي يتم التحكم بها عبر كابلات ألياف بصرية تمتد لأميال وهي غير قابلة للتشويش الإلكتروني.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أوقف العملية العسكرية الإسرائيلية بعد ساعات من إصدار رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو ووزير دفاعه يسرائيل كاتس أوامر علنية وقاطعة لشن غارات واسعة لتدمير ضاحية بيروت الجنوبية.
من جهة أخرى، أكدت وزارة الصحة اللبنانية مقتل 6 أشخاص بينهم طفلان وجرح 6 آخرين في غارة إسرائيلية على المروانية جنوبي البلاد.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed today (Tuesday) that the Israeli army is considering carrying out additional operations in Lebanon, indicating that its operations continue in southern Lebanon under all circumstances.
Katz said: Washington has endorsed our principle that continued attacks on the north will be met with an attack on the southern suburbs, and it has informed the Lebanese government. He added: It will become clear in the coming days whether the shelling on the north will stop or continue, prompting us to begin attacking the southern suburbs.
He pointed out that the long-term goal is to disarm Hezbollah, while the immediate goal is to dismantle the weapons from the Litani River under Israeli control.
Meanwhile, the American newspaper “The New York Times” reported that the Israeli campaign in Lebanon, which began with great hopes, has turned into a kind of deadlock, indicating that the Israeli strategy was to seize land in Lebanon as a buffer zone and push Hezbollah beyond the range of its anti-tank missiles, which have long plagued tens of thousands of civilians in northern Israel.
The newspaper reported that Israel was not prepared for Hezbollah’s extensive use of explosive drones with direct vision that are controlled via fiber optic cables extending for miles and are immune to electronic jamming.
U.S. President Donald Trump halted the Israeli military operation just hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued public and definitive orders to launch extensive airstrikes to destroy the southern suburbs of Beirut.
On another note, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed the death of 6 people, including two children, and the injury of 6 others in an Israeli airstrike on Marwaniyah in the south of the country.
