شهدت منطقة في ولاية كاليفورنيا حالة طوارئ واسعة النطاق، بعد تسرب خطير من خزان يحتوي على مواد كيميائية، ما دفع السلطات إلى إصدار أوامر عاجلة بإجلاء نحو 40 ألف شخص من منازلهم، وسط مخاوف من انفجار محتمل وانتشار أبخرة سامة في منطقة سكنية مكتظة.
وبحسب السلطات المحلية، فإن الخزان يحتوي على نحو 26 ألف لتر من مادة ميثيل ميثاكريلات، وهي مادة سائلة متطايرة وقابلة للاشتعال تُستخدم في صناعة البلاستيك، ما زاد من خطورة الموقف وأثار حالة استنفار بين فرق الإطفاء والإنقاذ.
وحذّر مسؤولون في فرق الإطفاء من أن الوضع «يبدو خطيرًا للغاية»، مشيرين إلى احتمالية حدوث تلوث كيميائي واسع أو حتى انفجار في حال تفاقم التسرب.
وقال قائد شرطة غاردن غروف في مقاطعة أورنج، أمير الفرا، إن أوامر الإخلاء تشمل نحو 40 ألف شخص، إلا أن آلاف السكان لا يزالون يرفضون مغادرة منازلهم رغم التحذيرات المتكررة.
وأكدت السلطات أنه لم يتم تسجيل أي إصابات حتى الآن، كما لم تُحدد بعد أسباب التسرب الذي أدى إلى هذه الحالة الطارئة.
وتواصل الفرق المختصة جهودها لإنشاء حواجز احترازية تهدف إلى منع وصول المواد الكيميائية السامة إلى شبكات الصرف والمجاري المائية، وكذلك إلى المناطق الساحلية القريبة، في محاولة لاحتواء الأزمة وتقليل آثارها المحتملة.
A large-scale state of emergency has been declared in a region of California following a serious leak from a tank containing chemicals, prompting authorities to issue urgent evacuation orders for approximately 40,000 people from their homes, amid fears of a potential explosion and the spread of toxic fumes in a densely populated residential area.
According to local authorities, the tank contains about 26,000 liters of methyl methacrylate, a volatile and flammable liquid used in plastic manufacturing, which has heightened the severity of the situation and triggered a state of alert among firefighting and rescue teams.
Fire department officials warned that the situation “looks extremely dangerous,” noting the possibility of widespread chemical contamination or even an explosion if the leak worsens.
Garden Grove Police Chief Amir Fattah stated that the evacuation orders affect around 40,000 people, but thousands of residents are still refusing to leave their homes despite repeated warnings.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far, and the causes of the leak that led to this emergency have not yet been determined.
Specialized teams continue their efforts to establish precautionary barriers aimed at preventing toxic chemicals from reaching drainage systems and nearby waterways, as well as coastal areas, in an attempt to contain the crisis and mitigate its potential impacts.
