قال عضو مجلس محافظي البنك المركزي الأوروبي ومحافظ بنك البرتغال ألفارو سانتوس بيريرا: «إن البنك المركزي الأوروبي يجب أن يتحرك لمواجهة التضخم عاجلاً وليس آجلاً»، وذلك في تصريحات أدلى بها أمس (السبت) لإذاعة «أنتينا 1» البرتغالية.
وأضاف بيريرا: «مصدر قلقنا الآن هو التضخم، وعلينا أن ننظر إلى البيانات من كثب.. لكنني أعتقد أيضاً، بالنظر إلى ما حدث في الماضي، أننا بحاجة إلى التحرك عاجلاً وليس آجلاً لتجنب تأثيرات أكبر في الجولة الثانية، عندما تنشأ دوامة تضخمية، أفضل أن نتحرك بسرعة وحسم».
وعند سؤاله عما إذا كان ذلك يعني أنه سيدعم رفع أسعار الفائدة خلال اجتماع البنك المركزي الأوروبي الشهر القادم، قال: «ستكون لدينا تقديرات جديدة من البنك المركزي الأوروبي وبيانات من دول مختلفة، وسننظر إلى ما يحدث للأسعار ثم سنتخذ قراراً».
وأشار بيريرا إلى أن قرار السياسة النقدية القادم سيعتمد على تقييم أحدث البيانات الاقتصادية وتطورات الأسعار قبل حسم الموقف بشأن أسعار الفائدة.
European Central Bank Governing Council member and Governor of the Bank of Portugal, Álvaro Santos Pereira, said: “The European Central Bank must act to combat inflation sooner rather than later,” in statements made yesterday (Saturday) to Portuguese radio “Antena 1”.
Pereira added: “Our current concern is inflation, and we need to look closely at the data… But I also believe, considering what has happened in the past, that we need to act sooner rather than later to avoid larger second-round effects, when an inflationary spiral arises; I prefer that we act quickly and decisively.”
When asked whether that means he would support raising interest rates during the European Central Bank meeting next month, he said: “We will have new estimates from the European Central Bank and data from different countries, and we will look at what is happening with prices, and then we will make a decision.”
Pereira indicated that the upcoming monetary policy decision will depend on the assessment of the latest economic data and price developments before finalizing the stance on interest rates.
