واصل المنتخب السعودي معاناته مع الأهداف المتأخرة في نهائيات كأس العالم، بعدما فرّط في نقطتين أمام أوروغواي خلال الجولة الأولى من دور المجموعات في مونديال 2026، ليرتفع عدد النقاط التي خسرها «الأخضر» بسبب أهداف استقبلها في الدقائق الحاسمة إلى 10 نقاط عبر تاريخ مشاركاته في البطولة.
وكان المنتخب السعودي في طريقه لتحقيق فوز ثمين بعد تقدمه بهدف عبدالإله العمري حتى الدقيقة 80، قبل أن ينجح ماكسيميليانو أراوخو في إدراك التعادل لأوروغواي، مانحاً منتخب بلاده نقطة من المواجهة التي أقيمت على ملعب هارد روك.
ولا تُعد هذه المرة الأولى التي يدفع فيها «الأخضر» ثمن الأهداف المتأخرة في كأس العالم، إذ شهدت مشاركته الأولى في نسخة 1994 خسارة نقطة ثمينة أمام هولندا بعدما سجل غاستون تاومنت هدف الفوز للمنتخب الهولندي في الدقائق الأخيرة، لينتزع «الطواحين» الانتصار بنتيجة 2-1.
وفي مونديال 1998، تقدم المنتخب السعودي على جنوب أفريقيا بهدفين مقابل هدف حتى المراحل الأخيرة من المباراة، قبل أن يحرز بينيديكت ماكارثي هدف التعادل في الدقيقة 89، لينتهي اللقاء بنتيجة 2-2 ويكتفي كل منتخب بنقطة واحدة.
وتكرر السيناريو ذاته في نسخة 2006 أمام تونس، حين كان المنتخب السعودي متقدماً بنتيجة 2-1 حتى الوقت بدل الضائع، قبل أن يسجل راضي الجعايدي هدف التعادل، ليحرم «الأخضر» من فوز كان في متناول اليد.
وبتعادل أوروغواي في الدقائق الأخيرة من مواجهة مونديال 2026، أضاف المنتخب السعودي حلقة جديدة إلى سجل المباريات التي فقد خلالها نقاطاً مهمة بسبب أهداف متأخرة، وهو ما انعكس على حصيلته التاريخية في البطولة العالمية.

In the 1998 World Cup, the Saudi team led against South Africa with a score of 2-1 until the final stages of the match, before Benedict McCarthy scored the equalizer in the 89th minute, ending the match with a score of 2-2 and leaving each team with one point.
The same scenario repeated itself in the 2006 edition against Tunisia, when the Saudi team was leading 2-1 until stoppage time, before Rady Jaaidi scored the equalizer, depriving the “Green” of a victory that was within reach.
With Uruguay’s equalizer in the final minutes of the 2026 World Cup match, the Saudi national team added a new chapter to the record of matches in which it lost important points due to late goals, which has reflected on its historical tally in the global tournament.
