أكد النجم الألماني السابق لوكاس بودولسكي، المتوّج بكأس العالم 2014، أنه غير حريص على متابعة مباريات كأس العالم 2026 إلا في حال وصول المنتخب الألماني إلى الأدوار الإقصائية وظهوره بمستوى تنافسي متقدم.
وأوضح بودولسكي، في تصريح لبرنامج على قناة «سبورت 1» الألمانية، أن البطولة الحالية، في الولايات المتحدة والمكسيك وكندا، لا تحظى بالنسبة له بزخم كافٍ يجعله يضبط جدول نومه لمتابعة مبارياتها، مرجعاً ذلك بشكل رئيسي إلى توقيت انطلاق اللقاءات الذي يتزامن مع ساعات متأخرة من الليل في أوروبا.
وأضاف أنه لم يعد يمارس عادة السهر لمتابعة الأحداث الرياضية في الولايات المتحدة كما كان يفعل سابقاً، مشيراً إلى أنه كان يستيقظ ليلاً لمتابعة بعض الأحداث الاستثنائية في الماضي، لكنه لم يعد يعتمد هذا السلوك في الوقت الراهن.
واستدرك بودولسكي قائلاً إن استثناءه الوحيد سيكون في حال تأهل المنتخب الألماني إلى الأدوار الحاسمة، خصوصاً إذا أُقيمت مبارياته في توقيت متأخر عند الثالثة أو الرابعة فجراً، مؤكداً أنه حينها قد يحرص على المتابعة رغم الظروف الزمنية، طبقاً لما نقلته وكالة الأنباء الألمانية.
واختتم اللاعب الدولي الألماني السابق تصريحاته بالتأكيد على أنه يفضّل حالياً عدم تنظيم يومه وفق جدول البطولة، مبدياً رغبته في قضاء وقت أطول مع أسرته، والتركيز على حياته الشخصية بعيداً عن التزامات متابعة كرة القدم.
ويُعد بودولسكي أحد أبرز لاعبي الجيل الألماني السابق، إذ خاض 130 مباراة دولية سجل خلالها 49 هدفاً، وترك بصمة لافتة في مسيرته مع أندية كبرى أبرزها بايرن ميونخ وأرسنال وغلطة سراي.
The former German star Lukas Podolski, who won the 2014 World Cup, confirmed that he is not keen on following the 2026 World Cup matches unless the German national team reaches the knockout stages and shows a competitive level.
Podolski explained in a statement to a program on the German channel “Sport 1” that the current tournament, held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, does not have enough momentum for him to adjust his sleep schedule to watch its matches, attributing this mainly to the timing of the matches, which coincide with late-night hours in Europe.
He added that he no longer practices the habit of staying up late to follow sports events in the United States as he used to do in the past, noting that he would wake up at night to watch some exceptional events in the past, but he no longer relies on this behavior at present.
Podolski added that his only exception would be if the German national team qualifies for the decisive rounds, especially if their matches are held at a late time around three or four in the morning, confirming that he might then be keen to follow the matches despite the time conditions, according to what was reported by the German news agency.
The former international German player concluded his statements by emphasizing that he currently prefers not to organize his day according to the tournament schedule, expressing his desire to spend more time with his family and focus on his personal life away from the commitments of following football.
Podolski is considered one of the most prominent players of the previous German generation, having played 130 international matches in which he scored 49 goals, and he left a remarkable mark in his career with major clubs, most notably Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Galatasaray.
