Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior faces the risk of missing the “El Clásico” against Barcelona in the Spanish league “La Liga,” after being sent off against Villarreal yesterday (Saturday) during the eighth round of matches.
Vinícius Júnior scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the 71st minute with a shot from inside the penalty area, but the referee disallowed the goal after reviewing it with video technology and showed the red card to the Brazilian star after he pulled the hair of Villarreal player Saliba at the start of the attack.
Referee’s Report
According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo,” the referee wrote in his report, “Vinícius pulled the hair of one of the opponents while the ball was in play, without the ball being contested between them. After his expulsion, while still on the field, he continued to protest my decision loudly, moving towards the area where I was standing, with aggressive behavior, which required his teammates to intervene to hold him back, without me being able to identify any specific phrase he uttered.”
Vinícius Threatened with Missing the Clásico
The newspaper clarified that the minimum expected penalty for the Brazilian star, according to the tournament regulations, is a two-match suspension: the first for his red card due to pulling Saliba’s hair, and the second for his behavior after receiving the red card when he rushed towards the referee, which required his teammates to intervene to restrain him.
If this penalty is confirmed, Vinícius will miss the next two matches in “La Liga” against Sevilla on October 18 and Barcelona on the 25th of the same month.
Penalty Could Reach 4 Matches
Vinícius’s penalty could extend to four matches if his behavior is considered violent conduct outside the framework of play, in addition to an additional penalty for his reaction towards the referee.
The moderate scenario involves a three-match suspension, either one match for the red card and two matches for his subsequent protests, or two matches for his violent behavior and another match for his reaction.
