The atmosphere of sorrow enveloped the residents of the village of Al-Ataf in the Beheira Governorate following the announcement of the death of the Egyptian flight attendant Azza Ramzy Mohamed Hassan Shaaban, who was 28 years old, in the attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, while her family was waiting for her return to spend her vacation with them, turning the moment of waiting into an unexpected tragedy.
Details of the incident revealed that Azza was planning to end her career in aviation and return to settle in her hometown, as she had informed her family that her last flight would be a prelude to her resignation, which intensified the shock upon receiving the news of her death.
Her cousin Ahmed Labib stated that Azza graduated from the Faculty of Law before joining an aviation academy and securing a job with an airline, and she was preparing for her final return to her village after this flight.
Family members followed the news circulating about the attack with great concern, until her older sister confirmed the news of her death, turning the state of anticipation into deep sorrow within the home. Her cousin explained that the family kept the news from her father throughout the night, considering his health condition, before informing him the next morning after confirming her death, prompting the family to begin preparations to receive the body and transport it to Beheira for burial in the village cemetery.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Egyptian embassy and the general consulate in Riyadh are following up on the necessary procedures for transporting the body in coordination with the victim’s family, while the Cairo News Channel reported that the diplomatic mission is also monitoring the health status of the Egyptian injured as a result of the attack.
The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority had announced that the attack resulted in the deaths of 12 people and injuries to 309 others, according to official figures. While Azza’s family was preparing to celebrate her return, her last journey ended in a way that no one expected, leaving behind an unfulfilled dream of stability among her loved ones.
