أسدلت محكمة أمريكية الستار على واحدة من أكثر القضايا الجنائية إثارةً للجدل في ولاية فلوريدا، بإصدار حكم بالإعدام بحق شرطي سابق أدين بقتل رجل داخل ورشة للدراجات النارية، في جريمة قالت السلطات إن دافعها كان الغيرة بسبب علاقة عاطفية.
وقضت المحكمة بإعدام المتهم البالغ من العمر 67 عامًا، بعد إدانته بقتل رجل يبلغ 57 عامًا، في قضية تعود إلى فبراير 2021، عندما وقع الهجوم داخل ورشة بمدينة فورت بيرس.
وكشفت التحقيقات أن المتهم راقب الضحية قبل تنفيذ الجريمة، فيما لعبت تسجيلات كاميرات المراقبة دورًا حاسمًا في تتبع تحركاته وكشف محاولاته لإخفاء الأدلة. كما أشارت التحقيقات إلى أن الخلاف ارتبط بعلاقة الضحية بسيدة كانت على صلة سابقة بالمتهم.
وبعد سنوات من الإجراءات القضائية، دانت هيئة المحلفين المتهم بتهم القتل العمد والحرق العمد، فيما رحب الادعاء بالحكم باعتباره إنصافًا لعائلة الضحية، رغم أن القضية لا تزال قابلة للمراجعة القضائية وفق القوانين المعمول بها في الولاية.
An American court has drawn the curtain on one of the most controversial criminal cases in Florida by issuing a death sentence against a former police officer convicted of killing a man inside a motorcycle workshop, in a crime that authorities said was motivated by jealousy due to a romantic relationship.
The court sentenced the 67-year-old defendant to death after convicting him of killing a 57-year-old man in a case dating back to February 2021, when the attack occurred inside a workshop in Fort Pierce.
Investigations revealed that the defendant had been monitoring the victim before committing the crime, while surveillance camera recordings played a crucial role in tracking his movements and revealing his attempts to conceal evidence. The investigations also indicated that the dispute was related to the victim’s relationship with a woman who had a previous connection to the defendant.
After years of legal proceedings, the jury found the defendant guilty of first-degree murder and arson, while the prosecution welcomed the verdict as a form of justice for the victim’s family, although the case remains subject to judicial review under the laws in effect in the state.
