Manchester United coach Michael Carrick faces the specter of dismissal from his position due to disastrous results, with German Julian Nagelsmann being tipped to succeed him.
Manchester United suffered a heavy defeat against Italian Como, losing four goals to one yesterday (Wednesday) in the UEFA Champions League, continuing their negative streak without a win in seven consecutive matches across all competitions for the first time since 2015.
Nagelsmann is a candidate to succeed Carrick
According to the British newspaper “Telegraph,” Julian Nagelsmann is ready to listen to an offer from Manchester United, as the former coach of Germany and Bayern Munich is expected to be one of the top candidates for the role if Carrick is dismissed.
The newspaper added that Manchester United has supported Carrick, despite the disastrous start to the season, which has seen the team achieve only two victories in 11 matches across various competitions and fail to win in their last seven matches, but this confidence is now being tested.
The name of the 39-year-old German coach has previously been linked to Manchester United, and he speaks English fluently, showing a desire to work in the Premier League.
Horstler and Emery among the options
Alongside Nagelsmann, United is also impressed by another young German coach, Fabian Horstler, the manager of Brighton, although the club has been monitoring him so far as a future option rather than an immediate solution.
This situation may change, but hiring Horstler would cost United a significant amount to convince Brighton to part with him, especially since the team is currently in third place in the Premier League table after an exceptional start to the season, in addition to the coach having signed a new long-term contract with the club last season.
Unai Emery, the Aston Villa manager, would be another costly option, with no guarantees of being able to persuade him to leave the “Villans.” Additionally, Eddie Howe, the former Newcastle manager, is favored by Manchester United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but the club may consider a different option if they decide to dismiss Carrick.
Conte out of the advanced calculations
The newspaper clarified that representatives of Italian coach Antonio Conte, the former manager of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, have tried to promote him for the Manchester United job, but he does not hold a prominent position among the club’s options, as some believe he would not fit the management structure that the club insists on adopting.
