A human rights report has exposed the crimes of the Houthi militia against the children of Yemen, documenting 222 cases of children who were recruited and killed in the context of armed conflict during the third quarter of 2026. This tally sheds light on the exploitation of children by the terrorist group, transforming them from school benches and their family surroundings to military camps and battlefronts.

From Home to the Frontline

Under the title “From Home to the Frontline,” a report by the SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties revealed that the documented cases were distributed across 16 governorates, with recruitment operations starting from schools and local communities and ending with the transportation of children to training and combat sites, where they face the dangers of death, injury, and capture.

This tally reveals the cost of recruiting children in areas under Houthi control, where the repercussions of war do not stop at the destruction of educational opportunities and normal life, but extend to exposing children to the dangers of armed confrontations, in violation of their right to protection and safety.

Dhamar Governorate Tops the List

Dhamar Governorate topped the list of recorded cases with 37 cases, followed by Sana’a with 34, Hajjah with 33, Saada with 25, Ibb with 24, and Amran with 21 cases. The six governorates recorded 174 cases, representing about 78.4% of the total cases documented by the organization.

The data identified the ages of 147 children, including 69 aged between 12 and 14 years, and 78 between 15 and 17 years, while the ages of 75 others could not be determined.

The organization confirmed that the numbers are partial and preliminary, limited to cases of death related to recruitment, and do not include the total number of children who have been recruited, including those who are still alive.

The organization documented five cases of children aged between 13 and 15 years in the village of Al-Murbaq in the Al-Tayal district of Sana’a, during the period from early September to October 16, 2026.

Weapons and Shooting Training

According to the report, three children were taken from the Qaa al-Sabala and Khalid ibn al-Walid schools, while two other children were taken from a local site within the village. It was noted that one of them was reportedly transferred to the Marib front, while the destination of the other two children remains unclear, with reports indicating that one of them is still missing.

The report included testimonies from children who said they were recruited at an early age, discussing the use of lessons, cultural courses, and local communications in recruitment, presenting fighting as a religious duty, along with promises of financial assistance for families or job opportunities in rear positions.

The testimonies included information about training in the use of weapons, shooting, and physical exercises, before some children were transferred to frontline positions or assigned guard and combat tasks. The report mentioned that some children were exposed to unknown substances suspected of affecting their consciousness and behavior.
