Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti lost his temper in front of his player Juan Cabal during the match against Dutch team Alkmaar yesterday (Thursday) in the UEFA Europa League, which ended with the Italian team winning 2-1.
Defensive mistakes ignite the coach’s anger
Spalletti was not satisfied with the lack of focus from his players during the match, especially Cabal, who made a positioning error that nearly cost Juventus two points. Despite the Italian team’s control over the game, some defensive gaps allowed Alkmaar to create dangerous opportunities.
In one of these opportunities, Cabal left a large space behind him, which allowed Alkmaar to launch an attack that resulted in a goal later disallowed for offside.
Spalletti threatens Cabal with a punch
According to the Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport,” Spalletti angrily approached the Colombian defender and shouted in his face, saying, “I will hit you!” Cameras captured the incident, showing the 67-year-old coach gesturing violently and giving a stern reprimand to his player, who remained attentive to what his coach was saying, without the situation escalating further, allowing the match to resume normally.
“Not making a decision is worse than making the wrong decision”
In the press conference following the match, Luciano Spalletti did not directly address his threat to the Colombian defender, but he criticized his players for their lack of quick response and decisiveness in certain defensive situations.
The Italian coach said, “What doesn’t convince me about Juventus? I feel convinced when I see their full commitment, but decisions that are not made are worse than bad decisions; because if you make a decision, even if it’s wrong, and you make a mistake, its cost is less than the cost of not making any decision at all.”
