Saudi Arabia has achieved a new milestone by ranking first among the G20 countries included in the Audit and Accounting Practices Index, a result that reflects the rapid development witnessed in the accounting sector and the quality of professional practices in the Saudi business environment.
This progress is the result of a series of transformations that the auditing and accounting profession has undergone in recent years; these included the development of legislation and professional standards, enhancing oversight on performance quality, and qualifying national competencies, all of which contributed to increasing the level of confidence in financial statements and reports.
The Saudi Authority for Auditors and Accountants announced last June that the Kingdom had advanced to the ninth position globally in the Audit and Accounting Practices Index in the Global Competitiveness Yearbook for 2026 issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
The Saudi accounting sector has recorded more than 300 legal, procedural, and professional reforms that have supported the efficiency of financial operations and enhanced the quality of disclosure and transparency, keeping pace with economic growth and the expansion of investments in the Kingdom.
The CEO of the Saudi Authority for Auditors and Accountants, Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Mughamis, explained that the quality of auditing and accounting work is a fundamental element in enhancing confidence in financial statements and supporting investment and financing decisions, emphasizing that the development of the profession contributes to enhancing the attractiveness of the business environment and supporting the national economy.
He pointed out that the Kingdom has adopted all international professional standards in accounting and auditing, as well as professional conduct and ethics, and has approved 128 international and local standards, implementing more than 12,000 supervisory inspection operations, in addition to expanding qualification, training, and professional certification programs.
He confirmed that the Authority’s strategy for the period from 2026 to 2030 aims to build on these achievements by enhancing the quality of practice and professional compliance, developing services, and expanding international recognition of professional qualifications, which supports confidence in the outputs of the accounting sector and solidifies its contribution to economic development.
