طلبت فرنسا، اليوم (الأحد)، من مجلس الأمن الدولي التابع للأمم المتحدة عقد اجتماع طارئ لمناقشة التصعيد الإسرائيلي في جنوب لبنان، وذلك عقب سيطرة الجيش الإسرائيلي على قلعة الشقيف وتوسيع عملياته البرية لتشمل منطقتي صور والزهراني جنوب نهر الليطاني.
وقال وزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان نويل بارو: «طلبت باريس عقد اجتماع طارئ لمجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة»، مضيفاً: «نحن نعترف بحق إسرائيل، مثل أي دولة، في الدفاع عن نفسها ضد هجمات حزب الله، لكن لا شيء يبرر استمرار العمليات العسكرية الإسرائيلية في لبنان وتوغلها المتزايد داخل الأراضي اللبنانية».
ووصف الحرب الإسرائيلية في لبنان بأنها «خطأ كبير»، مؤكداً أن التقدم الإسرائيلي داخل الأراضي اللبنانية يتعارض مع التزاماته، خصوصاً في ظل وقف إطلاق النار الساري منذ 17 أبريل، كما أنه يخالف القانون الدولي.
وفي الوقت ذاته، قال رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو إنه وجّه الجيش بتوسيع نطاق العملية العسكرية في لبنان، مضيفاً: «تعليماتي للجيش الآن هي تعميق عمليتنا وإحكام قبضتنا على المناطق التي كانت خاضعة لسيطرة حزب الله».
واعتبر أن السيطرة على الشقيف تمثل مرحلة إضافية في سياسة حكومته، ضمن سعيها إلى إقامة مناطق عازلة على غرار ما حدث في غزة.
وأشار إلى أن العملية العسكرية في لبنان تحتاج إلى مزيد من الوقت، متوعداً بإعادة الأمن إلى سكان المناطق الشمالية في إسرائيل.
وأضاف أن الجيش الإسرائيلي قتل 700 من عناصر حزب الله خلال شهر مايو الجاري وحده، فيما بلغ عدد قتلى الحزب منذ مارس الماضي 8000 عنصر، وفق قوله، متعهداً بإنهاء المهمة في لبنان، لكنه أقر بأن ذلك سيستغرق وقتاً.
France requested today (Sunday) that the United Nations Security Council hold an emergency meeting to discuss the Israeli escalation in southern Lebanon, following the Israeli army’s control of the Chaqif Castle and the expansion of its ground operations to include the areas of Tyre and Zahrani south of the Litani River.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barot stated: “Paris has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council,” adding: “We recognize Israel’s right, like any country, to defend itself against Hezbollah attacks, but nothing justifies the continuation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon and its increasing incursion into Lebanese territory.”
He described the Israeli war in Lebanon as a “big mistake,” emphasizing that the Israeli advance into Lebanese territory contradicts its commitments, especially in light of the ceasefire that has been in effect since April 17, and that it violates international law.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he has instructed the army to expand the scope of the military operation in Lebanon, adding: “My instructions to the army now are to deepen our operation and tighten our grip on the areas that were under Hezbollah’s control.”
He considered that the control of Chaqif represents an additional phase in his government’s policy, as part of its efforts to establish buffer zones similar to what happened in Gaza.
He indicated that the military operation in Lebanon needs more time, vowing to restore security to the residents of northern areas in Israel.
He added that the Israeli army killed 700 Hezbollah members during the month of May alone, while the number of the party’s casualties since March has reached 8,000, according to him, pledging to complete the mission in Lebanon, but acknowledging that it will take time.
