The coach of the Immortals, Desmond Buckingham, revealed the reasons behind his team’s loss to Al-Nassr by five goals to three, confirming that the departure of team captain Shaquille Benas from the defense line was a turning point in a match that witnessed offensive bravery from his players, despite the experience gap between the two sides.
He expressed satisfaction with the first half, noting that the 2-2 draw was deserved and reflected his team’s ability to compete with Al-Nassr and deliver a good performance against their stars.
He explained that the start of the second half aimed to maintain balance and stay in the game, especially after a previous experience where the team conceded goals before and after halftime. However, he emphasized that caution did not mean a retreat from ambition, and the instructions remained to encourage the players to take initiative and seek a new goal.
He rejected reducing the loss to a quality gap, considering that experience was the most significant factor, given the participation of young players who are gradually gaining their experience, compared to players accustomed to competing at high levels.
He added that the absence of Edgar and Sisi, along with repeated changes due to injuries, affected defensive cohesion, asserting that discussing these circumstances does not mean looking for excuses.
He concluded by pointing out that facing Cristiano Ronaldo, João Félix, and Sadio Mané provides young players with valuable lessons, expressing hope that they can quickly capitalize on these lessons to improve results and achieve the goals of immortality this season, while emphasizing the importance of finding a balance between developing talents and the need for experience on the field in upcoming matches.
